Return of the Ten

The week before I started to do some work on the Ten. The ToDo list looked like this:
  • new set of sprockets and chain
  • new rear tire
  • new hyperpro rear shock
  • inspection and greasing link mechanism bearings
  • new licenseplate light + wiring
  • hyperpro frontspring and oil

You need to take it half apart to get to the shock:

only to discover 2 out of 4 bearings are gone:

the other two still looked allright:

the collars were worn too:

All have been replaced now.

Removed the ScottOiler: the sprockets lasted longer without the use of the ScottOiler.

Then there was an UFO sighting: an unidentified falling object came out of the silencer:

It looked like strips of metal that 'melted' together in a carbon lump. I suspect we're looking at the remains of what once was the catalist.

While waiting for the bearings I had to take refuge to my sunday ride: the MT-03 ...

... but that went horribly wrong...

1,5 mile from home on my way back... the road had become a floor of ice...

... lost it and slid on my left hand side and then it looked like this:

How slippery it was; on the opposite lane:

...

... there's considerable damage... and with both bikes out of operation I actually had to go by CAR!!!
A real shame: the Ten would have taken the punishment without too many damage: just pick it up and continue beside the road/ice.

Thank goodness I was able to put the Ten together this weekend and I'm riding again!

Glad you are ok and mobile again, out of interest - the roller bearings look pretty bad, how old are they/how many miles have you done with them? What were the seals like?
Cheers,

Ian.

As you can see in the pics; the seals looked OK

My Ten has done 42000 km's (26000mls) and is used in all weather conditions, the occasional sand and mud (Dutch backroads) and dust (2500km Marocco trip). Never had a look at them bearings before nor did any maintenance on them...

Sorry to hear about your off, really bad ridding conditions.

If you ride in deap mud & rivers I would service the bikes suspension every 3 to 6 months to prevent this.
