Engine Management Light XT660Z Tenere
Hi All,
Sorry if this has already been covered, had a quick look can't find anything on the forum... Has anyone had any experience of the engine management light comming on? Mine came on yesterday although the bike appeared to be running fine. Pulled over switched off, tried to restart but although something sounded like it was powering up (relay or some electrical gizmo?) engine would not turn over. Switched off, left it for a few minutes, switched back on, rev counter, speedo and warning lights did their usual dance, fired up all ok no lights showing, rode rest of the day and this morning fine. Any ideas? 58 plate warranty up November!! (By the way, looking at some of the previous threads, paint on my engine cases bubbling from beneath as well. The bike hasn't seen too much winter weather) |

Hey there, Welcome to the forum!
First off Ade, could you go out to your bike, flick the kill switch off and put the key in the ignition. Then, hold the SELECT and RESET buttons down together and switch the ignition on. Keep the buttons held down until "DIAG" appears on the display. Once that appears, you can then release the buttons and then press them down together again to enter the "DIAG" mode. Once there, you should see a number starting from 01, press either select or reset untill that number goes to 61. This is where you need a pen and paper handy because next to that 61 will be another number. If that other number is 00 then there is no error code. If however, there is another number write it down and let us know what it is. If there is more than one fault code, this number may change every 2 seconds to display all the fault codes, write these down as well. For more information regarding fault codes, look here: http://www.xt660.com/showthread.php?...ht=fault+codes Should tell you all you need to know. Once you've done that, let come back and let us know what codes there are and take it from there! Cheers.

Thanks for the quick reply!
Tried the proceedure but can't get into the "diag" display. Goes to the mph/kmh switching stage but then once the eight seconds are up the clock starts to alter then nothing else. Was tempted to try it with the kill switch in the run position but looking at the thread concerned that this may clear the fault codes? Hmmmm........ |

Remember, you need to hold down the select and and reset buttons together. To press and hold them at the same time..
Then, whilst holding the buttons down, turn the ignition from off to on. If you don't make sure you hold the buttons down, nothing will happen! If you've never done it before, keep persisting. Took me a few attempts to get it right. Its kinda hard with those buttons to know whether you've pressed them or not. Keep trying.

Dazmatic, this procedure may work for the X and R versions but to my knowledge and experience does not work on the Z'ed.
Just a thought.

Hi All,
This has happened again (yesterday) but no amount of battery connection / disconnection would get the thing to start again as it had before. Noticed that with the ignition switch on when the earth lead was re conected to the battey "6_09 017" showed briefly on the speedo display. Also the engine management light is flashing 4 slow then 6 fast. Trip home on the back of a recovery wagon... Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Adrian. |

Error 46 is lack of juice in the battery.
Either the battery is knackered or it's not getting charged by the bike.

Thanks!
A few have suggested battery problems I'll start there. Only thing is, when this has happened before, after leaving it for a while with the battery disconected it has started fine once the engine management light has finally stopped flashing, like something has reset itself. If the battery was flat causing the problem would'nt it stay flat and not start again (if you see what I mean). Any road I'll try charging / jumping and see what happens. Many thanks for your help. Adrian. |

Hi Ade, I have a similar problem:
I have installed a tracker in my T and left in the motorcycle for more than 1 week, after that the battery was drained, so I take out and went to Yamaha for a complete recharge. After that, I was unable to ride for 1 week more, and then, had a small ride of 50km to charge a little bit. But, the engine light is always on. I went to Yamaha again, and used the Diagnostic tool, but we didn't found any fault code. We tried to change de battery, but still, the same error. I came back home, and discover that, when I put the high been front light, the engine fault light go off, but when I put low been light, the light pops out again.... |
