Engine Management Light XT660Z Tenere

Hi All,

Sorry if this has already been covered, had a quick look can't find anything on the forum...

Has anyone had any experience of the engine management light comming on? Mine came on yesterday although the bike appeared to be running fine. Pulled over switched off, tried to restart but although something sounded like it was powering up (relay or some electrical gizmo?) engine would not turn over. Switched off, left it for a few minutes, switched back on, rev counter, speedo and warning lights did their usual dance, fired up all ok no lights showing, rode rest of the day and this morning fine.

Any ideas? 58 plate warranty up November!!

(By the way, looking at some of the previous threads, paint on my engine cases bubbling from beneath as well. The bike hasn't seen too much winter weather)

Hey there, Welcome to the forum!

First off Ade, could you go out to your bike, flick the kill switch off and put the key in the ignition. Then, hold the SELECT and RESET buttons down together and switch the ignition on.
Keep the buttons held down until "DIAG" appears on the display.
Once that appears, you can then release the buttons and then press them down together again to enter the "DIAG" mode.

Once there, you should see a number starting from 01, press either select or reset untill that number goes to 61.

This is where you need a pen and paper handy because next to that 61 will be another number. If that other number is 00 then there is no error code. If however, there is another number write it down and let us know what it is.
If there is more than one fault code, this number may change every 2 seconds to display all the fault codes, write these down as well.

For more information regarding fault codes, look here:

Should tell you all you need to know.

Once you've done that, let come back and let us know what codes there are and take it from there!

Cheers.

hi, failing that check the battery terminals for corrosion or looseness

Thanks for the quick reply!

Tried the proceedure but can't get into the "diag" display.
Goes to the mph/kmh switching stage but then once the eight seconds are up the clock starts to alter then nothing else. Was tempted to try it with the kill switch in the run position but looking at the thread concerned that this may clear the fault codes?

Hmmmm........

Remember, you need to hold down the select and and reset buttons together. To press and hold them at the same time..

Then, whilst holding the buttons down, turn the ignition from off to on.

If you don't make sure you hold the buttons down, nothing will happen!

If you've never done it before, keep persisting. Took me a few attempts to get it right. Its kinda hard with those buttons to know whether you've pressed them or not.

Keep trying.

Dazmatic, this procedure may work for the X and R versions but to my knowledge and experience does not work on the Z'ed.

Just a thought.

Oh really?

I thought it was the same for all bikes!

Ah well then, in which case ignore me

You're right 100% sure it does not work on the Z, no diag mode :(

On the Z there is a way to count how many times the light flashes and know the Error COde, it's explained at the User Manual.

There is a Diag mode but you need the Yamaha diagnostic tool to read it, otherwise use the flash code off the dash.

Thanks guys,

Nice to know there are people out there willing to help!

Confident I'm holding the two buttons down as I've had to do this to change the mph/kmh display (picked this up off the forum as well. Instructions in the handbook wouldn't alter the display, dealer was going to change the clocks as faulty!)

Calling into the dealer soon, I'll see what they say and keep you posted.

Thanks again.
