OEM Engine gards, replacement duration
Hi,
as stated in another thread my Tenere is affected by the broken engine gards. So after a long email exchange with yamaha UK (I bought the Bike in UK) I finally managed to get confirmation that I would be covered by the Yamaha warranty even if I live in ireland. So I went to the official Yamaha Importer 2 days ago (they had initially refused to help me) They agreed to take the engine gards. They will send the part to yamaha (where ??? I thought they were Yamaha at least for Ireland), Yamaha will then confirm the failure, and they will replace the part. I'm also going to leave them the sidecases as the locking tab/lever of one doesn't lock itself into place (so the cases can removed from the bike without the key. My questions are: for those who have been affected by the broken engine bars and had them replaced under warranty: what has been the process and how long did it take ? Samer for the sidecase warranty claim. I suspect that the Yamaha Irish Importer will not process my claim as efficiently as they could as: 1- I'm not Irish 2- I'm going back to them after having succesfully complained to the UK importer 3- I've proven them wrong Cheers

I took the bike (with the bars fitted) to the local dealer, they took some details and some hi-res photos of the break. About three weeks later Yamaha had delivered the parts to the dealer. I've a pretty good relationship with the dealer (and they were very very busy), so I was permitted to take the bars away and carry out the replacement myself (the reason was I intended to stregthen the mounting before fitting) then return the brocken bars back to the dealer. I think the normal proccess would be to have the dealer carry out the replacement. It's a bit perculiar to have to return the parts first....... Although, and I guess it's a fair point, they are pushing back on warrenty replacements if the bars have suffered an impact - then again it's what they are designed to do, so they shouldn'y break anyway!!

ok, 3 weeks
I've spoken to several dealers about it and they all told me that I had to make my claim directly to the Importer. They apparently don't get paid enough for warranty work (aka the time being allowed and paid for warranty work is too low to do the actual work). And honestly, I do not trust dealers. I've beem disapointed (and sometimes deceived) too often. I've already replaced the bashplate myself.

so after 6 weeks, 5 emails and 1 fax (and several non answered phone calls) I had an answer from the Irish importer today about the engine gards (and the sidecase) I left with them mid october:

That's a joke, right ? 6 weeks to get engine gards a 1 sidecase ? I left the LHS sidecase with them for a replacement too. The locking mecanism broke. The sidecase can still be attached/detached but the vertical rear red tab doesn't lock in place when the case is closed. So anyone can remove the sidecase wether it's locked or not. I just realised that in autumn, and I had already been to Italy and back without problem.
