New breather / catch tank

I have the new tank and plan to fit it next week. Has anyone done this, it looks a tight fit did you have to move the fuel injector body ?

I did my own it is a tight fit but with some very long nose pliers and a little patience it's not to bad a job. Once you slide the clips on the pipe down the hose a litttle you just pop it out with it's mounting bracket and it just slides out then you pop it off the bracket fit the new one reverse the above and bobs your uncle! My new oil breather box was fitted under warranty too so you should not need to fit it yourself and suffer all the grazed knuckles!

This has been one hell of a long thread I started about a year ago and received around 80+ replies and some 2700+ views. Do I get an award?:moon:

Yeah I know! but it was worth a try-but one of the longest single subject threads though. :073:

Not to knock this lengthy thread

but is this mod really worth the bother

What are the advantages ?

Myself I don't really mind emptying out the pipe every so often and the amount of oil in the pipe is hardly anything to worry about.:eusa_whistle:

I check my oil level and its never really dropped and I recycle the spent oil into my loobman chain oiler.

however if there is some kind of performance or realiability gain I will be happy to pressure the dealers into doing the mod.

It really depends on your riding style ie fast continuous riding say 80mph and how often you do this fast continuous riding. For myslf I did alot of fast A- road/Motorway riding on a daily commuting basis of 80 miles per day and I was emptying the air box drain hose on a weekly basis. Ok not a big problem but I think most members dont like to see engine oil being blown back through the crankcase breather as it should be in the engine doing its lubricating-cooling etc.

Also some riders may leave off the drain tube bung and spring clip and just let it blow out naturally (like I did for about a month) so Yamaha being a responsible manufacturer modified the oil expansion breather box to avoid this and to alay everyones fears. It just not good PR to have oil ejected into a drain tube in the way the old breather box used to for high speed-high mileage users. It worries owners in my opinion and Yamaha must have been concerned also because they modified the breather box for 09 models and will fit the mod to any 08 bikes for free! Its up to you but why not take the upgrade as it wont cost you a penny(other than some time)!

fair point I will ring alf england about it, I am not using Tamworth Yamaha as I was not happy with their service charges last time.

Basically thats why i never bothered getting it done because tamworth yamaha were playing silly ******s and pretended the problem didnt exist.

I visited Saunders of Knebworth today and they spoke to some fella called Don in the Warranty Department who said it was the first he'd heard of it. I've experienced it myself after a 600+ mile trip to the South of France last year when the breather pipe was full of oil. Anyone got a name at Yamaha that I could refer to as I doubt I'm going to get anywhere otherwise. I think the part costs just shy of 15 but I could do without the hassle of fitting it.
