Anyone got a name at Yamaha that I could refer to as I doubt I'm going to get anywhere otherwise. I think the part costs just shy of 15 but I could do without the hassle of fitting it.

I first spoke to Yamaha Uk on this subject around Sept 08 but the guys name escapes me for now! If I can find it I will post it up on the forum. In the meantime if you read back through this thread you will have enough info. to tell your Yamaha dealer to contact HQ and get him to ask the warranty dept. You may have to be forceful but it should be approved as so many owners have had it done free under warranty including myself.

If you look in the Mods section Kev has put all the mods done to this bike and there is one highliting parts of this thread and gives part number changes etc from the old breather box to the new one.

see the following link which should give you some info to arm yourself with when you visit/ring the dealer.

I hope this helps.

If you still have problems I could probably find the guys name I spoke to all those months ago.

I cant see any reason why it wont be sorted.... and under warranty. Tell them you belong to this forum it sometimes helps I find

cr3sp0 24-02-10 21:26

Yep told them about this forum, and went in with pics from page 6 of this thread but to no avail. They said they would take it up with Yamaha at the end of March, not sure if they meet up with the dealers around that time or if there is another reason, but I'm sure they'll have forgotten about it by then unless I make a nuisance of myself. If you can find that name Stridey that would be really handy. Cheers.

just taken my UK bike to my local Yamaha dealer in Zell, Germany. Showed them my Euro Warranty card, explained the problem (in English), the mechanic brought up a warranty section on his microfiche/computer, ordered the part and booked my bike in for the work. Sorted.

Just shows the differences between dealers and their willingness to help.

Just received a reply from Yamaha UK they are pretending they don't know about the problem but tell me to take it to a different dealers for them to check.

As Loopydog states maybe Yamaha Uk are just trying to fob us all off.

I sent Yamaha Uk a reply along the lines of if they can arrange for the part to be at the dealers and to give me a time slot i will get the bike there.

I will await their reply but don't expect anything within 3 day's customer service department my arse.

I hate to say it but as a comparison my mates F650gs twin went back into the dealers and they told him as well as the service they would be carrying out some warranty changes there and then, they also gave him a choice of demo bikes to play on while he waited. :moon: come on Yamaha Uk play the game

What a difference between YamahaUK and YamahaNL: once I heard the news of the modified breather thru the German XT660-forum, I contacted my dealer and he called YamahaNL and they send the part pretty quick; it was replaced under warranty, no worries! It's all about attitude, I guess, and for sure SERVICE!
Once again, I'm very happy with my Tenere although it does have some flaws, which were all taken care of by my dealer and YamahaNL, under warranty. So I'll stick to my Tenere for many more kilometers/miles!

Fair point I have contacted yamaha uk again and heard nothing so I tried Alf England Today I showed the mechanic the part. He didnt seem to know about any change between the years but says he will contact Yamaha next week and let me knw the outcome. So maybe I am getting somewhere. I really dont understand why Yamaha uk have not made all the dealers aware of the problem and easy fix ???????????????????????

stuxtttr 11-03-10 00:54

Just found this in another thread maybe worth a try

Everyone who has had this problem need to register this with Yam UK on 01932 358042 and ask for Don or Moira.

this was for the reg fault but i am sure they will be the right ones to speak to regarding the oil drain too.

stuxtttr 11-03-10 01:02

Just to add Nigel from Alf England rang me back today he spoke to Yamaha they know of the problem but he has kind of left it in my hands says he will need to see the bike again ! but if I really want then they will change it. he said the part was only 5 ?

I am going to run the bike a few hundred more miles and check again and then decide. as it hasnt been having extended runs durring the past couple of months.

He did point out that the oil breather issue has been blown out of proportion due to the internet and said that it was not a recall issue and that Yamaha Europe are treating it just the same.

Obviously it is an issue as someone stated otherwise why would Yamaha have changed the part for the 09 bikes.
