This is the only thing I don't like about the SW Motech frames - the fact the rear brace goes downwards to behind the numberplate, rather than straight across behind teh rear fender like the Touratech one. It means that if you reposition the numberplate higher (directly below the rear lights like I have done), the SW Motech brace will be hanging down in space... I'm sure it would be possible to modify the SWM frames and incorporate a straight brace like Touratech have, but it would be a shame to cut through all that lovely powdercoating... |

Thanks for your comments. In relation to your question on whether the OTR single-can would fit the stock Yamaha case holder, I actually went there myself to try it and here is what we have found out. What we (OTR) did was removed the screw on my pannier rack where the single exhaust would connect, because he wanted to see if the rack would come off by the size of a washer or two. He reckoned that if both points are slipped with a couple washers, then the can would fit. He also doesn't think the heat from the can would be an issue on the plastic panniers because it would only go up to 40 degree area. I admit the 'tryout' wasn't exactly what I had in mind, which was physically and completely removing the pannier holder and bolting in back on the bike which he has with the single can. Granted, it took him more than he wanted to unscrew the rear joint because of the hidden location of the nut that is under and inside the top plate. I agree with you that the angle just seems too after-market. He argued that he needed the length of the can in order to give more ps and torque, that's why it is not possible to have the can angle in a way that hug along the rear end of the bike, like the stock would. As with other pannier rack especially his, I would imagine it fits because it sticks out a lot more than the yamaha pannier holder. The dB killer is about an index finger long or may be a bit longer and it is held by only one screw. I am torn because the usual aftermarket guys seem to be making the dual cans. Arrow supposed to come with another dual this month. I saw some posts that some US or UK companies may custom-make them, but it's a risk for me due to German approval, warranty, and EU3. Yet over EUR 600 and the concerns above just don't seem ideal. I guess I should be patient and wait/hope/pray someone out there makes a jolly perfect one. |
