have xt660r and use it like an enduro. had test ride on the tenere the other day and although the brakes are much better and the front-end is less vague on the road, im still not convinced its as handy off road.

but i'm still concidering getting one as the xt got me into the dirt stuff and i now also have a ktm 450. so the xt is mostly used for sunday runs and light greenlaneing.

although the xt is still my fav bike as its such a good all-rounder

1,000 miles on my '09 Tenere

Mine with 1,000 miles and so far so good.
Put TKC80 front and rear and is really good for mild off-road.
I like Tenere, nice bike.
Regards.

First fil up on my 6 day old 09 blue xtz. Came to it from an Africa Twin. Its lighter, more torque, more comfortable and the first big trip is already booked to North Wales (from Guernsey) at the end of this month. Happy days. I find myself taking the long way home every time I ride it.:icon_biggrin:

New XTZ in comparison with XTR

I have swapped XTR for XTZ. with XTR 2004 I had problems with jerking and surging:091:, replacing of ECU (2005 type), helped a lot, but not completely. The down leaded pipes were another problem by off-road, so I sold it and bought Suzuki DRZ400s. I was very satisfyed (mainly off-road), but DRZ was terrible on longer trips, so after 3 years I bought XT660Z Tenere and I must say it was a good choice:eusa_clap:. Different bike as XTR. Disadvantage is XTZ's weight by off-road and "italian production":sad4:. The quality (rust, clearances, finish, assembly) get much more worse as my first XT600E from 1996 and much more worse as DRZ (both bikes produced in Japan). The biggest advantage is stability on road, comfortable chair (in comparison with DRZ), adventure look, effective shield. Big advantage in comparison with XTR is smooth performance, behaviour of engine in lowest rpm, much more stability by higher speed on road, more comfortable (maybe due to heavier chassis), big difference in front brake efficiency and possibility of fork spring preload adjustment. Disadvantage against XTR is higher weight, lower torque of engine (I confronted it with my old 22000km XTR on the same track with my friend - new owner of my old XTR and we both have the same feeling). So now I am happy and proud owner of XT660Z Tenere!:blob7:

Same experience as George, here. I swapped from XTR to XTZ with the same results. Satisfied with the choice, I covered the first 1000 km in a couple of weeks.

Best Bike

Buying the 660z was the best 30 birthday present to myself!

I am in the market for an XTZ. Have been riding dual purpose back in SA for years doing about 30000km per year on mountains and backroads on my KLR. Used also to cut new trails for Unimogs building power lines. Love these machines! Just finishing my UK bike license before choosing my Ten.
