Tenere Census - Please help!

I am trying to see how many people already owns one and how many people ordered one and are still wating for it and also how many people are considering getting one swapping it for their XTX or XTR.

Please vote as many entries as you like, THANK YOU

I can't believe only one of you here owns a Tenere, there must be more than one

Where is the box to tick saying........

'I already have an XT660X and don't like the Tenere so WILL NOT BE BUYING ONE.' ?

As it's not there, that would be my vote.

Well somewhere in that question is your exact answer. :wrongforum:

this is a Tenere intended post.

Not exactly a nice way of putting it, is it FF?

each to his own.

I've got mine, but I know that Powerbiking in Wycombe have, so far, only received three out of the five they were promised, with no indication as to when the other two will arrive. Si

Where is the option for "I really want one but the wife would kill me and I can't bear to part with my 'X' would I be crazy to have all three XT660 models?" huh?

I would really like to have a go on one for a spin to see what its like but not too sure weather i would part with my XTR as the tenere is still too expensive + all its extras are also too expensive.

But if i could i would love to have one.

Think my Mum would go :076:as i only got the XTR about 10 months ago.

Impulse buy...

I was fortunate to find a black one still in stock a couple of weeks ago...

I'd just got back from murdering my XR650 around Europe and Morocco, and saw one in a dealer on the Monday, bought it over the phone on the Wednesday and picked it up last weekend - fantastic!

jobbo2u 02-04-09 02:29

have xt660r and use it like an enduro. had test ride on the tenere the other day and although the brakes are much better and the front-end is less vague on the road, im still not convinced its as handy off road.

but i'm still concidering getting one as the xt got me into the dirt stuff and i now also have a ktm 450. so the xt is mostly used for sunday runs and light greenlaneing.

although the xt is still my fav bike as its such a good all-rounder

1,000 miles on my '09 Tenere

Mine with 1,000 miles and so far so good.
Put TKC80 front and rear and is really good for mild off-road.
I like Tenere, nice bike.
Regards.

First fil up on my 6 day old 09 blue xtz. Came to it from an Africa Twin. Its lighter, more torque, more comfortable and the first big trip is already booked to North Wales (from Guernsey) at the end of this month. Happy days. I find myself taking the long way home every time I ride it.:icon_biggrin:

New XTZ in comparison with XTR

I have swapped XTR for XTZ. with XTR 2004 I had problems with jerking and surging:091:, replacing of ECU (2005 type), helped a lot, but not completely. The down leaded pipes were another problem by off-road, so I sold it and bought Suzuki DRZ400s. I was very satisfyed (mainly off-road), but DRZ was terrible on longer trips, so after 3 years I bought XT660Z Tenere and I must say it was a good choice:eusa_clap:. Different bike as XTR. Disadvantage is XTZ's weight by off-road and "italian production":sad4:. The quality (rust, clearances, finish, assembly) get much more worse as my first XT600E from 1996 and much more worse as DRZ (both bikes produced in Japan). The biggest advantage is stability on road, comfortable chair (in comparison with DRZ), adventure look, effective shield. Big advantage in comparison with XTR is smooth performance, behaviour of engine in lowest rpm, much more stability by higher speed on road, more comfortable (maybe due to heavier chassis), big difference in front brake efficiency and possibility of fork spring preload adjustment. Disadvantage against XTR is higher weight, lower torque of engine (I confronted it with my old 22000km XTR on the same track with my friend - new owner of my old XTR and we both have the same feeling). So now I am happy and proud owner of XT660Z Tenere!:blob7:

Same experience as George, here. I swapped from XTR to XTZ with the same results. Satisfied with the choice, I covered the first 1000 km in a couple of weeks.

Best Bike

Buying the 660z was the best 30 birthday present to myself!

joevanwyk 09-04-12 02:29

I am in the market for an XTZ. Have been riding dual purpose back in SA for years doing about 30000km per year on mountains and backroads on my KLR. Used also to cut new trails for Unimogs building power lines. Love these machines! Just finishing my UK bike license before choosing my Ten.

tenerod 20-09-12 14:00

I've clocked up 29,766km on myTenere and while a lot of that is commuting l have done a fair bit of dirt. Single trail to flat out open dirt roads with brand new MT21's, only the top end speed beats my mates DR650. Half the price, air cooled, guys, we are not invincable.
So why would i not change, cos l need LONG distance ability. My day rides would stretch the lenght of GB.
Its a compromise and l love it.

My Tenere Experience So Far.....

 Hello Everyone,I bought my '12-plate Tenny last July, did all my own little mods to it and added accessories, some genuine Yam,some aftermarket parts, have ridden it at least twice a week come Sunshine,Tipdown Torrent,Hail,Sleet,Mud-alot of Mud and I can say that since riding Bikes since '89,it's the best all round Bike I've ever had. Just on standard Tourance tyres,it does everything well, safely & with fun. It's cheap to run,it's easy to look after, cleaning or mechanically maintaining,.... Yamaha have aced it. Thanks Yam !
It's design genius made real & in good enough quality to withstand a multitude of environments, whether it be roasting hot, soaking wet or freezing cold. Also, mechanically it can take alot of exuberance too.
Just a careful daubing of ACF50 from a brush onto a few of the fasteners and a wiping of GT85 onto a couple of surfaces now & again is all that's required to see off the seemingly incessant wet,Cow poo & mudslidey Cornish winter here. I love this Bike and I should've got one yonks ago when they first came came out. Brilliant strong grunty real-world engine, good gearing from pottering 1st gear to good top end speed 5th Gear ,she'll sit at 70mph easy peasily,I love the selection action too, anice positive slick snicky selection, lovely feel on the Clutch, lovely feel & very good outright stopping power on the Brakes, great Steering, great Comfort, great controls & switches, the Lights are great too,the ergonomics all round are superb, this has been really well thought out. If I was another manufacturer,I'd be gutted I didn't come up with this Bike. It's a Bike for all Riders and is Fun at everything. I am so glad I bought my Tenny,I don't know what I would do without it now,.....cry would be the first thing. Then look to get another as soon as possible.

I like it's looks too,it looks like a Rally Raider, different, purposeful, utilitarian & tough. I really really enjoy owning one. Totally chuffed after about 3K miles on mine from last Summer to late Winter. My Tenny has been faultless & Fun

Well what are you waiting for? Go out & get a Tenere Wildebeest!

Cheers - Stim

Are you sure you don't work for Yamaha! Just kidding. I will off course agree with all of this.

DazzaXT 22-05-16 14:17

I own a 2013 Tenere. Haven't had a chance to ride it yet, as I have to do a little "reassembly" first to get it back to good health...:massage[1]:

Big Dazza 22-05-16 23:43

I've had my Tenere since early 2012, love it, wouldn't swap it!!
Done a few mods and plan a few more in the near future.

Been through many bikes- I can only have one right now- that's why I chose the XT660-Z.

It is the Swiss army knife of motorcycling.
