My idea would be to have two sets of wheel and tyres so that I could run the XT as a road bike with the standard road 17inch wheels for most of the year, and then switch over to the winter set with semi knobblies on 21/18 wheels off the XT660R.
When I asked my Yamaha dealer he mumbled something about the forks not being the same so you cannot swop the wheels between the R and the X. Ok, but is there a way to run two sets of wheels/tyres?????

Thanks gang!!! Simon

I went down this road with my R and from memory there are a few issues.
The R & the X run different offsets which means brake caliper issues etc, most likely requiring some customised spacers. Kev can give you the low down. What about running another set of tyres on the X rims? There are some fairly aggressive 17" front tyres out there now.

Thanks Acole, and I have been chatting to my friendly Yam main dealers and they confirm your point about the offset, so it rather sounds that Yamaha designed the 2 bikes to be completely non interchangeable!!! So the tyre route may be the only practical way to go!!

What did i do?

Dropped it! like a D**khead! left it on its side stand whilst running, on a very slight down hill slope, must not have been on its side stand properly and whilst my back was turned it dropped! I was fuming. Damage could have been worse, It snapped the left mirror off just below where it screws in, so should be able to get a new mount from the scrapyard, and scratched my left handguard badly, but i suppose thats why its there!

tomorrow will be spent fixing it and polishing like F**k to get rid of scratches, or as near as possible!

Yep, done the same thing but was lucky enough to catch it before it went to far. The stand is partially to blame IMO. It doesn't seem to have much forward angle.

I'm pretty sure it is possible. I spoke to Kev about it. From memory you just need to have some spacers made up and then play with the spoke lacing to give you the right offset. I would definaty talk to Kev if your serious about doing it.

Barkbusters

Finally got the B/Busters on and sorted. Little bit of a hassle actually. I found using the Spare part B54 helped with clearance around cables etc and I ended up using one on each side. Also added a couple of amber reflectors for side on visibility.
