Hi John11, I have sold all the links that I got made up. Order a set of XTR links for your XTX from Yamaha as the XTR links will lower the X. Otherwise you can buy them from here.

lowering an XT660R

Hi guys,

i've just found and had a read through this post (albeit a year later!) with interest. I've recently bought an 07 XT660R for my girlfriend as she's just past her test (we're looking to ride 2 XT's from London to Oz next year!) but at the moment the seat hight is way too high for her.

I've been in touch with Vyking Vinyls about re-sculpting the seat but think she'll probably need a bit more of a drop as i want to keep a reasonable amount of padding. I've also spoken to Paul at Metal Mule but they don't plan to make any (although he said they're often asked)

I noticed that the numbers on the poll you ran (raising links vs lowering links) is about level, so i have a couple of questions:

- are there any plans to make links to lower the XTR?

- are there any other Yamaha models that have suitable sized links for lowering an XTR? (I'm sure I've seen something about the links on a Divi?)

- I've looked at Off the Road, what's the difference (other than doubling the price!) between TuV approved and non-approved links and is it worth it?

Sorry for all the questions, but would love to get the missus on the bike to practice whilst the weather's still playing fair!

thanks

hi all , is there any more on the manufacturing for these lowering links . searched ebay , even found a USA site that make links but not for our bikes? anybody have a pair i can purchase and post to me in OZ?
EDIT : my local Yam dealer has heard that XT660R links are a bit lower ( 20mm ) and are avail by order at $49 each. but i need to know for sure first unless someone else has been a guinea piggy!

Send a pm to Kev see if he has a set or knows where to get one. At one time he had a guy making them for him.

The XTR links do fit on the XTX. Changing the link size will cause premature wear to the top or bottom rollers, depending which way you go..

I won't be making any more links as the demand was not there, I have to order large batch's to get the price down & to have 1 batch take a year to sell is not worth it for me.

Was looking in to this myself. I can get both my foot tips on the ground ...when is level.. and with normal boots.. so - 3cm can make the difference.

OTR as the kits,from +30mm to -65mm:

My doubts are:

a) Whats with the rollers waring out? any fix? (pictures are always welcome)

b) What can I do to the front set to lowering it accordantly since im going to the -30mm solution, iv read something about raising the triple something..!?

c) oh, and ofcourse, can i get it elswhere for under 35 plus the 16 outrageos shipping costs OTR charges outside Germany!
