Power to weight ratio

Getting that weight off, what does it do for us.

XT660, 173kgs to 48HP = 0,2774 HP Per 1KG

I you remove 10KGs in weight it will be the same gain as adding 2.7HP to the motor.

By removing a few things this is what you gain.

Rear foot mounts X2 complete with X4 bolts.= 1.300 grams

Hand grab rails X2, bolts X4 = 0.600 grams

Tool kit. = 0.900 grams

Total =2.800 grams

Your gain is 0.77HP just with these easily removed items. Get more weight off & more the gain.

You can get greater weight reduction by removing the STD cans & fitting after market ones. In this mod you gain HP & weight reduction, a big plus.

Once the weight is reduced, say 10kgs to 163kgs & your power is increased to 50HP with the cans fitted. Your power to weight ratio is now 0.3067HP to 1KG, that's about a 10% gain.

A KTM 640LC Motard has a power to weight ratio of 0.3355HP to 1 KG. We would need to shed another 14kgs to get the same power to weight ratio.

Yes you could, but that would be 173kgs + half a tank of fuel. About 180kgs.

With my lardy arse I don't think it really makes that much of a difference to be honest - I like to think my weight improves the sprung/unsprung ratio, and acts as plyable armour in an off. LOL

and if you so want to reduce a weight try to change a rear swinging arm,the new one is aluminium,but if you re not pleased with bike buy a new one,another one. the fact is that you can do a small changes on bike but if you try to loose some 10 kgs on bike you can do it but the bike will not be for road use anymore....but on some drastic changes you cant count on.:glasses7:
