I wrote the first post in this thread nearly 3 years ago. Some people said that this was the most appropriate reflection of what these bikes mean to us, and I am very proud of the comments received.

Essentially the thread needed cleaning because of the "off topic" intervention from a number of idiots who luckily are no longer with us. But we then decided to leave it un-moderated for people to see exactly where we come from and what we've been through and where we are at now.

So I would l like to invite all those new members who have joined us recently to read and reflect why the XT in all its variants X / R / Z is the winner, and of course from an owner point of view it has been said many times by a lot of you that the onwership itself would not be half as exciting without this forum and its members.

Being a relative newcomer I've just spent a while reading this thread. I would like to say that I have done a lot of reading on this site and although Ive never said anything before I have used some of the suggestions and fixs to alter my bikes settings. This has improved some of the minor niggles that I had, although to be fair I've been very very happy with my R. My only regret is not buying 1 sooner. I would like to take this oppurtunity to thank not only capt moto but all the members as well for keeping the whole show on the road. I'm a happy bunny with both my xt and this forum. As bongoman proved you cant please all the people all the time, but then some people don't want to be pleased, what can you moan about if your pleased!!!!!!!!!!

I can't comment yet - but I will later in the year. But from a counter position, having got rid of my TDM last year, I needed some money quickly, and I think that was a great mistake, because they really are fantastic.

Interestingly the thread I started on Commuter Motorcycle Club was called "Transalp or Deauville...or something else" (which is pretty close to if you don't have an XT go for a TDM or a deauville).

My finances meant I had a very limited budget - and the XT was a bargin (2415 miles and in mint condition, 09 plate for �4500 - with extras, centre stand, handguards and wind deflectors).

The Q will be, whether I will miss the TDM for a significantly less powerful bike that I was in love with. I'll let you know. :105:

When I first bought my xtx last year I missed the power of my xjr but I wouldn't be riding it with all the salt & sh!* thats about at the mo. This was the main reason for getting rid of the xjr, so I could ride all year round. (Just hoping when we eventually get above freezing that all the crud comes off.) :smilies0134: So glad that I found this forum so soon after buying the xtx, because with the dreaded surging to be honest I was starting to regret my decision. But not now, because with all the mods etc. that I have done it runs so much smoother and better. Thanks to Kev and the Capt for guidance and so many members that have written about their different experiences.:026:

Just been reading through this thread and have found it quite interesting so thought i would add.
I have wanted one of these XT's for a long time, the right one came up for sale on my door step, sold my TDM and bought it. I do not regret my decision one little bit and can safely say that i wont be changing this bike for many years.... Before i got the bike i spoke to SteveD about it and he mentioned that i take a look at this site as i would be able to find alot of info and opinions on the bike. He was very right, i have found the forum very helpfull and the people very friendly and have met some of the forum members and i feel forums like this make the whole experience better..

I deviated from the XT path earlier this year for a CBR600F2. I regret it now as I had my first ever off on a bike on the road, broke my ankle and finger. Would that of happened on the XT with handguards and half the power... One I have mulled over for quite some time especially from my armchair whilst unable to walk!

Anyway, that scrared me but I am starting to heal now, still not right yet after 3 months but already I have the urge for another bike. I am not sure what to get but I am sure if I do get one it will be an XT of some sort.

Picked up my 11th XT660 last week, I�ve had 9 XT660X�s and 2 XT660Z�s, like most of you on here I�ve had a lot of bikes but I keep coming back to XT�s. I purchased a new one in 2005 when they where you princely sum of �4800 😁 with the exception of last year I�ve had one since 2005. I�ve made sure it�s backed up with a 4 cylinder steed this time 👍🏻
