XT meet 2017???

I know 2016 hasn't even finished but looking at planning a few more trips in 2016 than I did in 2017. I'm going to the IOM TT for race week June 2nd to 10th.

So have we any dates for the xt 2017 meet?

beany 13-12-16 20:25

could be interested, would be nice if in wales again

CaptMoto 13-12-16 21:35

I put it to GULG and Pleiades if Darren fancy having another go at organizing a ride after two years of "retirement" :D maybe together Darren and Pete could come up with something appropriate. of course that's if Darren is really up to it again.

:support:

Otherwise I leave it to a skilled organizer to come up with a suitable plan, remember you must cover all arrangements with finding a camping site, haggle a price and make sure it is safe and trouble free, and of course the route of the ride has to be something as stunning as the Lakeside rides or similar. I hear Devon has some beautiful riding roads over a variety of sceneries.

Let's wait and see if anyone can come up with a suitable plan, don't forget health and safety is paramount.

:wave::wave:

I for one would be dead keen to attend Wales last year was brilliant

I'm happy enough to look into something.... but where????

Scotland is my firm favorite, it's just awesome and despite touring the place for years, there are still places I've not been to. Perhaps an island ? somewhere easy to get to like Arran ? The downside is that it's a long way for most people.

Europe ? What about taking XT660 into Europe ? Plenty of opportunities within reasonable riding distance (Ferrys from the North, Tunnel from the south)

Wales ? People were happy with Wales.

South West, As the Captain has suggested, or somewhere around Salisbury Plain ??

My feeling is that the Lakes became a little stale, but it has been a couple of years so maybe there is an appetite for t again?

From an organisation perspective, the Lakes is simple for me, it's 30 minutes to the campsite, and I've got good local knowledge of decent blacktop and rough stuff. (and a large gazebo) Last time we used the Farm they gave us the field at fixed cost, so the more that come the cheaper...

The first thing to do is gauge some answers to some basic criteria;

Where?
When?
Budget?

The key thing is to consider that people are members of many groups, so putting something on the same weekend as ABR or HH has immediate impacts. Also Bank Holiday weekends are usually busy and campsites are reluctant to hand over large areas of field. This leads me on to the other problematic area, groups, especially male and motorcycle... Many proprietors will simple refuse to entertain the idea. Organising a place to stay is a challenge.

Wadayasay ????

CaptMoto 14-12-16 15:47

Ah!!! Darren so good to see you back in the spirit of organizational skills leadership, your post has given me fresh hopes.

I suggested Devon because I once went on an off road cycling holiday around the Dartmoor park, from Ivybridge via Ashburn and all around the Moors, there are some stunning biking roads and I promised myself one day I must return here with a big f/off motorbike and let the 4 strokes do all the work, but it was never to be as you know after my accident I'm semi disabled, so now my biking days exists only in my imagination.

But anyway please see if you can all agree on location and I will support you with setting up dedicated forum sections and with anything I can do, stickers, flyers and t-shirt printing.

Cheers

Jacques le Roux 14-12-16 17:42

I like the sound of Dartmoor and the south but I'm biased living down south.

Big Bill 14-12-16 18:12

I did think of the N/E, maybe a ride over the causeway.....

greatescape 14-12-16 20:39

Or what about a 'road trip' style meet up...? Stay at a couple or several different places. ..Cook breakfast in the morning. ..pack up and ride to the next. .. XT660.COM on the road!! Steve

beany 14-12-16 21:40

could even be the dales,or the peak district is pretty central for most folk

micron_Ed 14-12-16 22:20

would interested in something as with most I guess depending on dates and venues etc, love cornwall, devon, wales, Yorkshire but no less about north of Birmingham (yes I know Yorkshire is North of Birmingham).

Nice idea, Like that.

Thinking something like XT660 Tour of Britain. There's a nice loop that brings in England, Scotland, NI, Ireland and Wales, folk could join and leave the tour as they wished ?

Keep the idea coming, we'll collate them and have a poll later

maxwell123455 15-12-16 21:16

im up for a long weekend type whereby I take off thurs fri or fri mon.

My only issue at the moment is dates as I'm already away to the IOM TT in the first week of June so 2 weekends if not more as I'll need weekends either side to pack/unpack.

Destination I'm easy, id prefer to stay in the one place if possible as it makes it easier and stops issues of packing up wet stuffs if it rains (rain what's that). My general idea day 1 ride to venue and tent up, day2 ride about with all, day3 ride about with all, day 4 pack up go home.

W. T. ffffffff ??

You big girl. Even my wife doesn't take that long to pack :)

Pleiades 17-12-16 12:24

Some good ideas here. I too particularly like the 'grand tour' concept - something a little different from the norm.

We did loosely talk about a Norfolk-based long weekend round the campfire in Kent, which I would still like to do. However, 2017 looks like a chaotic year for me and I'll be in the US for much of the late spring/early summer - the traditional times when we'd do an XT meet. I will definitely do a 'Norfolk n Good' weekend in 2018. But that doesn't really help with this year...

Getting slower in my old age!!

steveD 11-01-17 19:50

Well this thread has died a death pretty rapidly. Just shows how enthusiastic you lot are.
I have already got the Dragon, Thumper club meet and a week over to Norniron coming back through South Wales so not that fussed.
Ps I don't see many Xt660.com members at the Dragon.
Now we've done the Lakes and North Wales so now I suggest South Wales, Northumberland, Dartmoor area, Norfolk or Scotland. Midlands?
Now I know some of you do not travel far but there has to be some give and take. There will always be a time or place which will not suit everybody.
By the way my last trip was to the ABR meet at Bideford 300 miles there. Only two other Tens there!
So we need to decide on a date then a location.
We are running out of time fast to get a good site.
Ps yes this is me, Steve, I organise lots of meets.
I have even organised meets for Xt660.com!

greatescape 11-01-17 21:00

Although I've suggested a 'road trip'..... ( and I still think that would be brilliant fun!) at the end of the day I'm open to anything . It would be good to fix a date......Steve

In the scheme of things, I find tours much more interesting than rocking up and staying in one place.
In 2015 we rode the coastline of Scotland as far as Skye (anticlockwise), camping each night. Yes we had a particular crappy night in Ullapool, but the trip was awesome.
Last year we picked up the route at Ardnamurchan Point, and to our surprise, there was another XT there. Had a lovely little convoy running over many miles of twisty single track road. We then headed over to Mull, the down to the Mull of Kintyre. Again, all camping and it was ace.
even my wife as a pillion prefers to tour (granted it's on the GS not the XT), so this Easter we'll be heading back up to Skye via Oban, returning via Campbeltown on some roads that we've not traveled.
In the summer I'll be heading for some European action, though to where I do not know, and won't until I roll off the Ferry. Alone and in a foreign place.... brilliant.

The older I get, the less I want to sit in a field drinking... much rather be exploring.

greatescape 13-01-17 10:32

https://youtu.be/J1Y4EoQuJG4 I guess it's the idea of a group of XT's on the move that appeals.. i just want to be riding my bike at the end of the day! , and if we could work in a ferry crossing or two even better! Maybe think of some places of interest to ride to .....but as Steve D says campsites have to be booked especially if a bunch of Adventure bikes are rocking up to camp. Steve

steveD 18-01-17 11:48

Still no commitments from anybody. Seems a shame really as the past events have been real good.

I do know of a campsite at Dent in the Dales (although the Lakes claims the place) where I have organised many a meet. I know the owner very well and they have a marquee that we can use. In the past I have organised a Hog roast there for the Saturday evening as well. Two pubs in the village and I have a rideout already printed!
I was at a meet in the Malverns last year that was really good, behind a pub with good countryside to wallow around.

OR what about Haggs Bank in Northunberland, I know Danny thewre and there is camping available as well as bunk accommodation. He could organise rideouts and some pretty extreme trailing.

I. for one would go back to last years' place as I thought it was ace, but we would need somene to organise a rideout.

Steve

......................and any suggestions or nominations for a date would be good, that's a start!

Agree.

As I mentioned earlier in this thread, I'm committed to organising a "Norfolk 'n' Good" event in 2018. However, that doesn't really help with this year though!

As I'm in the US from April till probably the middle of July, I just haven't the time to recce, plan and organise anything exciting, and I want to do a Norfolk event justice - make it something to remember.

Why not just keep it simple this year? Pick a date. Go for something familiar, that's already planned (say Dent) and just rock up and enjoy ourselves.

In fact, as suggestions aren't exactly flooding in... Why don't you and I pull rank and just pick a date Steve? We'll have a good time, even if it is just the two of us, a tin or sponge pudding and a carton of custard! (Only make sure its the end of July, August or September!)

greatescape 18-01-17 21:13

Those months are good for me ( post Ireland! ) and I've never been to the Dales, so count me in. Steve

steveD 18-01-17 23:24

OK So the Dales it is then. I can organise the Marquee and if numbers are good enough some form of either BBq or the Hog roast. I do have some good friends that are very familiar with the Dales for traial riding and can organise that. The road ride that I do have is very good as well.

As I am self employed I can take time off as and when I want so I wopuld prefer to defer a Date to those with more commitments.

C'mon guys if you want to do this nominate a date and see what the interest is.

As Pate says end July, August or September.

Cheers Steve

Jacques le Roux 19-01-17 08:26

Dales sounds good. I'd be there

July and August are no good for me - September is doable though.

Pick a dry weekend, I'm still not a lover of those shower cubicles in Dent....

For those that have never ventured to Dent, it's a strange location... It's in Cumbria, but has a Lancashire postcode and is part of the Yorkshire Dales - figure that one.

micron_Ed 19-01-17 22:00

I would be up for it but already have dates planned end of July and in August so see what dates come up and hopefully they don't clash.

jon660z 20-01-17 16:40

Count me if the dates are doable
I can lead a few dirt ride outs too No problemo. :-D depending how "dirty" you boys wanna get ;-)

jon660z 20-01-17 16:58

Infact wherever we go i can ask a local TRF group for a trail ride route or even a local guide., theyve helped me out loads in the past :-)

Pleiades 21-01-17 16:16

If I had to put my hat in the ring and pick a date, the best undoubtedly for me would be the weekend of 29th/30th July (and either side thereof).

steveD 25-01-17 10:14

Come on chaps. Let's have some more enthusiasm and suggestions or commitments.
For me I would go back to last year's site as I thought it was excellent.
If I need to organise the site at Dent then I do need numbers.
Steve

Jacques le Roux 25-01-17 14:59

Name a date Steve, then you'll get a response I'm sure.

Oldandwornout 25-01-17 22:49

Hi Steve
Much appreciate your efforts in arranging a meet , as Jacques says a date would help as already have various commitments location not a problem will meet up where you choose. Hopefully will see you in June if I can get the time off and really want to meet up with Jon for some more trails when the weather warms up a bit if he's ok with that.
Thanks again for making the effort , we will have to meet up sometime whatever !
Cheers Mark

Watch this space! We should have an official announcement very soon...

steveD 08-02-17 22:34

YES the next annual rally will be at Dent.

Dates are 28th to 30th July.

I have been in touch with the campsite and arranged for a marquee.

Should sufficient numbers be interested I can arrange a Hog roast for the Saturday evening. The beer will of course be in the pubs.

I already have an excellent rideout that I have used in the past and will arrange for someone to lead an off road rideout.

Hope this will accommodate most of you guys.

Cheers Steve

Pleiades 08-02-17 22:49

Excellent work Steve!

I will start a sign-up thread ASAP...

Il Solitario 16-02-17 22:39

Hi Pete, hi Steve,

I can't handle it this year. From my home it's to far to reach the Dales within one day, no way for a short trip like last year to Kent.

I'm looking forward to the Norfolk 'n Good in 2018 :occasion14:

See u there
Werner
