I was speaking to Central wheels at the dirt bike show and he said they where in the process of making hubs for the Tenere, and expected them to be ready around now, might be worth a call, but can't see them being cheap

darkhelmet 27-01-16 17:15

That sounds interesting! An alternative to the Talon hubs?
What is their purpose for making hubs for the Tenere?

abigsupermoto 27-01-16 17:26

Not sure on there reasoning why, but they already do a rear hub, and we're working on a front, probably for peeps wanting lighter sets of wheels

Soooooooo, I went ahead and did it, front wheel from a Husaberg and rear from an X, sticky goldspeed supermoto tires.

And here it is. You get a standard (ish) Tenere

Add a pair of these http://i607.photobucket.com/albums/t...psjiv0msqe.jpg

You go too work and in your dinner hour have a muck about and you end up with something like this (please ignore very untidy workshop)

160/60/17 rear

120/? /17 front. Just fits

A few notes from the experience.
Xt660x wheel drops.straight in the back.
This thing is AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!
My headlight is now useless beyond adout 20ft
My sidestand is almost useless.unless you find a hole to park near.
This thing is AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!

It handles very well, loads of confidence in the front end. Endless grip it seems.
I will be trying for some peg down action soon as the roads dry up a little.

If you are only going too ride on tarmac this may be the mod for you.

Only annoying thing is, is that its taken me 3 years too think of it and do it.

Thanks for looking.

AWESOME.

Hi, how was the fork conversion?..I know they are wp, but was it hard work?..cheers jo

jon660z 01-02-16 21:14

It was pretty straight forward. Buy KTM 640 sm forks WP 4860, (stiffer springs that are good for the Tenere). Only 265 mm travel as apposed too 300mm.

Buy a left hand fork bottom from a 2005 model exc and crowns and wheel and brake, swap the fork bottom for the exc one.

Press out the ktm steerer and press in the tenere one. Both 30mm crown fittment, but the ktm one runs imperial bearing sizes at the bearing seats.

Reassemble the steering system with only one of the castleated nuts, you will have too make/buy a small top hat spacer to take up the difference in steerer dia to top crown bore.

Simples :book1:

Great job on the SM conversion....good to hear it handles well. Any difference to the gearing with the smaller front. ?. I just can't stop smiling when I see the tow hitch on your Tenere!!. Try and head down for the Anniversary meet. Steve

abigsupermoto 01-02-16 21:47

Love it :D

jo75 01-02-16 23:23

Cheers Jon..

Gearing has changed a little Steve, I nearly always have a knobbly in the rear so its dropped a little dia from to the SM tire. Ive noticed around 5mph difference at same revs.
My fuel guage has also become even less optimistic.

I was considering the Anniversary gathering but im away on a trail riding weekend in Northumberland the same weekend. But maybe later in the year ill try too get together with a few people for a camp.

Jo75 if your seriously tbinking about doing the fork conversion drop me your email via pm and ill help however i can. I can certainly press your steerers in and out, and make the top hat spacer you will need.

If needs be bring it all round to my workshop and ill help you fit it all.

Been out all night on it. Such a giggle, needs a few tweaks as on tight corners the front tucks under a little, im going too lower the rear to slacken the head angle out a touch and add some compression and rebound to the forks.

No peg down yet but itll lean way further than my bottle will allow haha
