Electric problems
Hello all, I have just got my fork sent for repairs, and now the electrics have messed up, was out on a ride last night before fixing it, and my headlight bulb blew, pulled into a garage, bought a new one and fitted it, I carried on and 10 mins later my friend I was with pulled me over, he said my tail light wasn't working unless I braked (Led light) and the indicators stopped working, don't light up or make a sound
so my headlight bulbs keep blowing, side light doesn't work and tail light as well as indicators, does anyone know what the problem may be?? I've checked the wires are connected... The bike still starts and runs fine: |
Can you get hold of a multimeter? If so put it across the battery terminals with the engine running and check the charge voltage should be 13.5-14.2v. Make sure you Rev the engine while doing the check as it might be fine while idling but when you Rev you might go higher. Really sounds like the regulator isn't regulating and your blowing bulbs from over voltage.

Checked the voltage and it's around 13.5V, still no clue...

Also, my indicators won't work at all, checked the wires all seem fine, and replaced relay and still nothing, but when I set my alarm they light up but one side brighter than the other, unless it's just me

Have you checked the 10A fuse in the separate white holder to the rear of the main fuse box? This fuse supplies the indicators and tail/sidelights, which may explain why they both arent working yet everything else is fine (assuming your headlight stayed working after you replaced the bulb). It is quite possible that the headlamp filament just blew (as they do) and momentarily cause a voltage spike, which in turn caused the tail/sidelight/indicator circuits fuse to blow (they headlight front sidelight share the same earth). The headlights circuit may have been able to take the spike as its rated at 20A. Id guess the reason the alarm still powers up the indicators is that it (or its circuit) provides the supply to the indicator relay, not the same fused supply that the handlebar switch uses. Check the 10A fuse, replace if necessary. If it is the problem, watch out it doesnt blow again as this will be a sign the something is still amiss. However, I reckon (assuming the headlight failing was the start of your woes) that it blowing is/was the route cause and you should be OK. |
My indicators used to work fine same as tail light and the headlight bulb still kept blowing out, only the last time, my headlight blew it took the rest out :P Going to check fuse now

where can i find this fuse? i have a damaged xtz and still have problems. I see one cable under the seat with a white 3 pin outlet for a diagnostic tool and a square connector with 4 black wires in it, connecting to nothing (maybe also for a diagnostic tool?)
can't find any extra fuse beside the main fusebox. still have a code 51 fault, have had immobilizer, key's and ecu re programmed. albert |

The empty square connector is for the optional alarm. When you say error code 51, what are the symptoms and what is the engine trouble light doing when the bike is cranked and also when the ignition is turned on the the engine not running? |
