When do we see a new Tenere?

Has the 'new' bike gone off the boil?
Honda look certain to be pumping out the new africa twin, are yamaha going to upgrade the 660 Tenere soon?
I was thinking of changing my 2012 bike sometime in the near future and was hoping Yamaha were going to unveil something so i dont have to buy a GS 800 and then regret it in 12 months because the new Tenere has landed.

I'm guessing (hoping) they will shoehorn the MT-07 parallel twin in there and still enable it to be LAMs compatible.
If they do that I may upgrade the old girl but realistically, my old girl and I have many miles to travel together yet!!
Matt.

My money would be on an MT07 based Tenere being launched at the Milan show in November to go on sale in early 2016. Looks likely there will also be a 690 KTM Adventure as well as the Africa Twin by then too, as well as the AJP PR7.

At last there are going to be some choices, not that I'll be splashing the cash on any of them anytime soon.

While your at it could you make 2 if it's not to much trouble...:tongue1:

My money is on a tweaked version of the MT09 - less XT, more Soft Roader.... sort of a MT-09 XT with 21/17" wheels and some longer suspenders, the same as Triumph have done with the Tigers.

It's just the way the whole market is moving, Yamaha will follow the money, not the wishes of a hardcore few.

I hope I'm wrong.

Honda's AT, it'll be nothing like people think, it's going to be governed by TUV and European type approvals that will kill it as a AT. I'm not even sure it will be a twin in the pure sense, probably a V-Twin. Heavy ABS, Traction Control and emissions equipment.

I think Triumph, BMW, Honda, Yamaha will all be a little indistinguishable from each other. The only thing that might set the AT apart is the DCT box, if they fit it.

I really hope I'm wrong.

KTM may well be the only big player in the market that will give us the bikes we desire. The smaller players will also look to cash in on the movement of the big boys into the mass areas.

Jeash, I really really hope I'm wrong.

Have to agree with you there Gas_Up_Lets_go.

Even KTM are succoming to market pressures.

I hope Yamaha keep the Tenere as a single; I think they will but not change it too much as ther're lots of their heritage linked to this bike.

I can see them expanding the MT range and dropping the Super Tenere....

Didn't they already do this with the MT09 Tracer?? It's very soft reader, especially with the underslung exhaust!!!

What exactly has the TV to do with that? Exactly, nothing. TV just checks the road worthy. And it does not do it in Britain afaik.

You mean like European type approvals (which were also confirmed by your goverment) killed the KTM LC8 and KTM 690 Enduro R with the strongest single zylinder on the market. Or killed the BMW F800GS.

Twin is Twin IMO. It doesn't matter if its V or not.

Which heavy ABS? The type which is installed in the KTM 690 Enduro R? I think the KTM is lighter even with ABS than any XT without ABS.

I can't see your concern about any those points you mentioned.
The manufacurers are able to build proper offroad/adventure bikes with all your concerns fitted. BMW does it and KTM does it too. If the japanese are unable to do so, there problem. They can ask BMW and KTM how it works.

Gas_Up_Lets_Go 10-04-15 18:54

Jeash, must be something in the ether..... People are very argumentative today.

darkhelmet 10-04-15 22:37

Well, the AJP PR7 looks like a good alternative in my eyes.

And i'm hoping on a real adventurous MT07 version, but on the other hand i dont, because i wont have the money for one :)

I think your best bet will be KTM or a smaller manufacturer, because it is still a niche market, the real deal adventure bike....
