Are Yamaha deluding themselves in thinking a softer version of the XTZ will sell loads?
Its always been a bike with a pretty focused 'niche' market, anyone who buys one tends to know exactly what its strengths and weakness are. If you want to do hundreds of motorway miles at 100 mph you dont look at a tenere 660. My own wish list would be:- 1. Look like a proper Dakar bike. 2. Engine no bigger than 750cc. 3. Lightweight (as in no heavier than the current bike.) 4. Better biuld quality ( we all know the faults with this one.) 5. As good as the current bike at fulfilling a dual role. DONT make it into a softroader type thing, the markets full of them already 6. Simple engine that can be maintained easily (dont stuff it full of electronics that ****** up and leave you stranded.) 8. Keep the price real. My XT is a second bike used for commuting - i wont be buying one if it cost 10 k. Does anyone remember Yamahas huge price hike a few years ago, sales stopped and dealers were left with loads of stock thry couldnt shift. 7. If you need some inspiration look at the CCM 450. Anyone got anything else to add.? |
Personally Id rather see a 700 twin rather than a 900 triple. However, what Id really prefer is a simple single, a better version of what we have already. Im quite happy with my 50hp (after a bit of tweaking), but Id like to see
1) 20Kg less weight 2) 6-speed gearbox 3) More robust final drive 4) Quality adjustable suspension 5) Better (lighter) wheels 6) Improved build quality 7) Bigger alternator output 8) More effective wind protection 9) Decent headlight 10) A fuel tank (and bodywork) thats simpler and quicker to take off/strip down Not much to ask really? |

Love my bike but 1-10 would make it awesome...wonder what the cost increase would be over an already expensive bike.. |
I did put a lot of similar points across to Yamaha when I was asked about what I liked & don't like about the Tenere with their customer follow up survey. Of which there were several. Let's see if they take any notice.
Personally I wouldn't want to much more power for off-road situation's as it could become a bit of a handful. & if Yamaha do stuff up the next Tenere then it will make the ones we own more desirable therefore holding there value. But if big power's your thing then what about a Twin based on 2 WR 450 motors bolted together ? |
Pleiades nailed it. 1-10 would suit me fine.

+1 to 100 % of Plaiades expectations.
But as we discussed in Switzerland - lots of old-Tnr-guys are now running to the hp-pimped and weight-reduced Models from nearly every other company than Yamaha..... Would buy a 2stroke Middle-Tnr with the wishes from Plaiades - otherwise will stay with my cool 660ties-babe. Have phun with your Tn this year :chevil::tenere::chevil: cheers, Andy |
