The idea has me proper drooling but I'd wonder about the 'offset' of the drive sprocket and the alignment to the rear sprocket.

So yesterday my engine gave up on me.
Seems like it is the known issue but the engine is still on the bike so I can't be sure. My engine housing is cracket and third gear is hardly working anymore so I'm kinda sure it is this problem.
It is a 2009 tenere with engine number *M311E-0007171*.
I found a second hand 2008 engine. Do they have the same problem?
Not sure if the engine comes from a tenere. Do the 660X and R have the done engines?
Hope to hear from someone since all help is very welcome.

Thanks,

Peter.

Peter, they are all the same engines. The problem units are listed in this thread.

Sprocket indeed

So after successfully swopping the engine for A second hand one I opened up the broken engine to find out it was indeed the known gear issue. The damage is severe since metal parts have been going around the entire crankcase. I've been trying to get the sprockets out of the crankcase but I haven't been able to find out how. All the sprockets and gearshift levers keep eachother in place. According to the manual i should be able to lift one of the levers out but I didn't manage so far. Any tips on how to do that?
Thanks!

Update on my gear box issue.... Glad to say that my bike is up and running again. It was the 4th gear dogs that broke! I can say that riding at slow speed in traffic is what saved the casings and also that all the broken bits dropped to the bottom of the engine with out jamming the gears also helped. A new gear and gasket set later and bike is back! The best part of it all, I managed to buy off Ebay a MTC can which has changed the bike's performance with Kev's fuel mod incredibly at low revs and slow traffic speed!!!! Love this bike even more now!

Cheers ears.
