I done some wiring next . I need a power socket up front for powering my Garmin and for the Optimate so it'll need to be permanent live . I also need a switched live for some heated grips . I'll post a few picks later of what i done ..

I've done like this.
Just below the instruments are a black cover. There is a connector with switched power. I've just put two small wires in a used cable binders to keep it in place. I've put the power supply for my garmin in the right grey sidepanel. It does not take much power so I'm running it directly from the small connector (with a fuse) I've also split the wire from the connector and routed it to the left panel. In there I've put a relay that is triggered by it. The feed for the relay is taken directly from the battery (with a fuse). In the left panel i also found space for a step-less heat controller for the heated grips. This time I've chosen one from McCoi because it used a waterproof potentiometer. The plan was also to use the relay for the chainoiler but i discovered that the scottoiler needed constant power (What a dumb design). I would have fitted the McCoi i had on the super tenere, but can't find a place on the pony to fit it hidden. The scootoiler has a more clean design with the pump integrated in the tank. So if anyone is interested i have the pump and electronics for an McCoi for sale for a reasonable offer (You will need some tubing/tank and speed sensor - i did not have the time to remove it when i had sold the bike it was on. Yes there's a lot of options for wiring the gadgets . I don't know my way around my zt660z to well yet but i done the wiring yesterday . I kept it quite simple as i'll need no more than my sat nav and grips . My permanent supply for the power socket comes straight from the battery via a fuse and the live switched supply for the satnav comes from the fusebox via a fuse . I'll post a few pics later and await for comments from folk :) . It's interesting to know how others done it . On my DL650 i wired a aux fusebox via a relay to power all the gadgets .

I used the connector behind the instrument panel, ran this to the left (indicator) panel where I fitted an in-line 2A Fuse, followed by a 5V DC regulator to a waterproof USB socket (Bulgin Buccaneer if you're interested)
Permanent USB power for my phone, mounted on the Nav bracket above the cockpit. Simple. |
A few pcs of the wiring then , i first made a simple loom that would carry the wires along the frame ..

The permanant live and earth go straight to the battery vai a fuse . Other jobs i've got sorted ..
Renewed the brake fluid , i flushed all the old fluid out . It looked like the original going by the colour . I've treated most of the electrical connectors to ACF50 . Fitted s Scottoiler , i routed the delivery tube through the swingarm , i'll post a pic later . Ordered and fitted a single can link pipe from MTC , i need a tool tube on the other side . Fitted a ram ball above the clocks for the satnav .. I was going to give it a engine service this weekend but the oil filter did'nt turn up :( . |
