I don't doubt the strength, durability and looks of the AS product, but accessibility is what put me off. The large TT bash plate, for example, is a piece of piss to drop down; two easy access bolts (with captive nuts) to undo at the front and hinged at the back - takes 2 minutes tops. |
You can still do the oil filter with the AS guard but the crank nut is covered. But then again its so far apart to to be an issue.
|
And You can do oil / filter change with AS bash plate / bars without any problems. No need to take bash plate off.

The oil from the sump would run all over the bash plate... if you could even get the dump plug out.... |
For what its worth, I still reckon the OE Yamaha belly pan is good. Mines had quite a hammering and never let go. I was lucky enough to get a set ot OE engine bars a while back as well and they have proven themselves to be tough. I know that there were issues with both these products but I still think that Yamaha should have just worked them out and continued to make the engine bars like they did the belly pan. They suit the bike, they fit well and afford the protection that we are all looking for without being huge, ugly and overpriced.
Mind you if there was only ever one workable option for add-ons we would all get bored and look the same! Of course, should an adventure bike have to have such add-ons at all? Should they not be standard? Good luck in choosing the setup that suits you, your riding and your buget. |
