that is a good thing about them....but it is the only good thing.

MTC Too Loud?

The removable baffle (at least on the single can) consists of a perforated tube. I have noticed baffles on other silencers have non-perforated tubes.
Try covering up some of these perforations with either a tube fitting over the baffle or rolling up some thin sheet metal (exhaust wrap) and insert it inside the baffle and hold in place with a couple of suitably sized PK (?) screws.
I'm currently "testing" the latter method and have covered up half of the baffle.
It would be great if someone could test this propperly (dyno runs etc) to make sure the balance and fuelling are right.

I can confirm that the MTC gets considerably louder if the baffle falls out in the middle of a rally :(

I know ive said this but im gagging for a single MTC can....i just cant stand loud exhausts!! i did email MTC about this...just too see if they had any ideas or thoughts but got no reply. :010:

Am i dreaming or did i read somewhere on this site about some one making a second baffle to fit in the link pipe???? But as said in above quote..baffles are fine but if its gonna monkey around with the performance of the bike then thats no good.

Yeah, IIRC, it was MTC themselves that supplied a blanking plate/disc that went in the entrance to the silencer and held in place by the link pipe.
TBH, it's probably better to restrict the flow into the silencer rather than out of it - less pressure for that tiddley little screw to have to endure!! (although either way I'm sure corrosion will get to it eventually). It's just easier to remove the baffle for experimenting rather than having to keep removing the silencer until you get the sound level & back pressure that suits (notwithstanding dyno testing for proper fuelling).
On the subject of that little screw, a shakeproof washer may help matters. But for Brunel-esque "belt & braces" you could always fit a steel hose clamp over it. Ouch, not pretty!

Use plenty of Loctite & then put a bead of heat proof silicone around the end of the baffle (the stuff they use to seal gas boiler flue pipes) to seal it against the inside of the pipe. Once a little carbon has built up, you'll never notice. If the screw falls out, at least the baffle won't follow.....

You'll need one of the high temp Loctite compounds. The regular ones are designed to break down when heated, and it's been well established that the gas flow out of the back of an MTC can is rather warm :D

Oh and a replacement baffle is 20 from MTC.

I went to the Stafford show the other week and saw the MTC show van. Had a chat with Martyn, a very pleasant chap and duly ordered a can at show price!:041:

Went to pick it up myself yesterday, only an hours drive away!

Oh just lurvely. Satin finish on the link pipe and satin black for the body with a carbon end piece.

Couldn't resist but fitted her last night. Instruction sheet spot on and an easy job with few tools, also gave me the opportunity to assemble my 'back end' with copper grease.

Well had to start it up and in a garage ...................certainly sounds like a single but perhaps a bit loud, we shall see.

I did see and hear GULGO's MTC and rode behind him and didn't think it was too loud. Mine is the same design so should be of a similar decibel.
Hope to get out this weekend so will report back with pics.

Steve

Come for a ride with my X Racing and no baffle and you'll probably not feel so conspicuous!!
