I have had quite a lot of gear from Adventure-spec and must add that I do not have any affiliation with the guys there other than I always get a warm welcome and good advice (as they take my payment from me!)

I have also been following Walters' development of soft luggage and have read a lot of arguments for and against soft / hard.
I saw some of these panniers a while back and was going to buy them but Dave at Adventure-spec said that they were still in development and some new features are to be added, he suggested that I wait.
I would presume that the new design is now out and I would certainly recommend that you consider these products if you wish to go the soft route preference.
For any of you that do not know of Walter Colbach I suggest you search him out on ADV Rider and Horizons Unlimited sites. I have not met him but have read some of the writeups of his journeys and believe me if anyone knows what design features are required for soft luggage then he has some really valid design ideas.

Like I have mentioned earlier on I have a set on my next shopping list. Why? I could easily lift the pair with one hand. I am fed up with carrying so much weight around with me, my Metal Mule panniers weigh a ton empty!
The only sacrifice is that I always use a pannier for a seat but even to carry a seat will be much much lighter that the panners.

This is purely my opinion. Hope this info helps.

I just last week fitted a set of Aluminium rigid GIVI cases to my XT660X and then set off for a 1000km tour of Sardinia, what a beautiful island. Anyway apart from a small accident hitting another bike as the bike becomes REALLY wide, I found these rigid cases truly excellent and practical. Sure they are expensive but they should last.

ive used these ortileb now for two years and they have been really good
the tool tubes on the tenere have made a good platform for them and the bottom strap secures them to the tubes but anyway they have proved tough enough to take some laydowns and are 1000 percent waterproof
..i know they arnt going to be the most fancy things but if its any good to anyone they have been very good bags ..they work well with the side rails on the klr as well but in all honesty ive never needed to bother with rails on the tenere ....the twin tool tube set up has made them very secure ..if the tubes are not your thing ...bag supports can be slung using the exhaust bolts in the same way just making a rail between the brackets to rest the bag on instead of the tubes if you see what i mean
one other advantage of this is the bags do not make the bike as wide as the exon valdize at the back ... and the weigh pretty much nothing a few pounds

Throw-overs...

I use both MetalMule boxes and throw-overs too, but not at the same time :eusa_shifty:

I have a set of Hein Gericke "Pro Sports" and CARGO "Endurance" throw-over cases and they fit very well over the back-seat and down the sides, albeit, resting and connected to the pannier-boxes frame. Be careful using a bungee-cord under the seat from one bag to another as mine have been " cut in two" by the rear-wheel whilst in motion! :sign12:

The throw-overs save weight and don't look too bad either and using a few bungee-cords to strap them down you'll be okay too :glasses11:
