I thought that only the top of the tank was changed to provide room for the battery, but I've not had a closer look below yet. Only had it moved a bit aside to access the battery. Coming from a raised super tenere it is much lower. So much smaller that my 6year old son commented on it, when they where parked side by side :-) But ABS was the reason to buy it. I ride to much in traffic and ABS might save my ass some day on a unpredictable surface... The reason to buy it now was a fair price on a low mileage two year old one. On my Super Tenere i have fittet flowmeter with electronic from http://www.enduro-stammtisch.de/ and a bicycle computer as display. It is accurate within a fre %. I've also drilled the breather hole so it can hold 30liter. On average i have refilled it with 26 liter (the official capacity) but very often between 27 and 29liter. I have used it a lot for commuting and know where fuel is available :-) So even trough its carbs are a bit worn again (needles are worn) it still does at least 16km/l and a range of 475km. I was looking at the same range for my next ride. Not that i need it to get to work but out of convenience not having to refuel all the time. Before buying the small tenere I also looked a lot at the bmw g 650 g sartao that is on sale this year in DK. A new 2012 one with ABS is 32000 DKR less than a yamaha xt660z tenere (on the road including the danish taxes). That is a difference of 4300/3600/5700$ ... I even considered a Sartao with touratech 2x11liter sidetanks even through they are very expensive. In the end i stayd in know territorie and the xt660z is my third tenere. I've also had an 1988 xt660z 3aj with a big tank :-) I still have to learn how much i can trust the fuel meter, but so far 80km on reserve seems to safe ... |
My F-trip kick in when tank is about half full, so annoying. Even though I know there should be gas in it I get nervous when I ride where there are no petrol stations nearby and the fuel meter is flashing.

F trip at 220 - then takes 17 litres

I managed 66.85mpg yesterday. Got to about 240m before trip started flashing. That's with Kev mod, fuel mod, MTC single can, K&N, no AIS and a bald rear tyre

After my first fill-up I filled up again at 271 miles and the F-Trip hadn't kicked-in. It took 17.91 litres which equates to 69mpg. Mind you, that's running-in with a max. of 4500 rpm.
So much for the F-Trip starting to flash when there's 6.7 litres left as the owner's manual states! Given the tank holds 23 litres, I must've had around 5 litres left. Next time I'll go on till the F-Trip starts flashing. |
225 to 235 miles to f-trip then about 16.5ltrs of fuel to full again. That's day to day ridings without working the bike hard apart from the odd wind up to overtake.
The other day I ran on f-trip for 45.4miles and then filled up with 22.75ltrs. Total range for that tank was 273 miles and I would have been very reluctant to push further. Bike is now four years old and shows 15k on the clock. Sent from my HTC One V using Tapatalk |
when i fist had it from new about 180 to f-trip
once run in i went up to 220 odd then cat cut out and even more run in 245 odd but this drops quite a bit in mid winter - back down to about 215/220. at first i thought it was the bike but once the days warmed up again it returned to 240 plus with the occational 250 to 270 depending the type of riding. 300 miles is always achievable from a tank though (neck drilled) fuel mod, co2 mod, no cat, derestricted pipe, pipercross filter, no snorkle, iridium plug. 44 000 miles on the clock now. |
