Yes Paul you only get one shot at life.:kneel:
|
Inspiring stuff and safe travels..
As the old lady says to Dan Walsh in his great read 'These Are The Days That Must Happen To You' "There is more time than life" |
so now time to head back out...there is a big world out there even though many people think you don't have to leave the country for adventure!!!
http://dmh65.smugmug.com/5000mileadv...aphybig-XL.jpg ...and leave some tracks...:rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl http://dmh65.smugmug.com/5000mileadv...umption-XL.jpg obviously i'm packed and have nothing to do right now, if it wasn't 3 in the afternoon i think i would leave |
Since all the packing was done I took a ride to the Shrimp and Petroleum Festival in Morgan City, it is the longest running festival in Louisiana and has been going 77 years.
There was a full moon between the new and old bridges, this is the same old bridge that Peter Fonda and Denis Hopper rode over in Easyrider. http://dmh65.smugmug.com/RidingRTW/9...SAM1224-XL.jpg Not thinking I just took my little point and shoot, so when I heard of the fireworks display at the end of the night I was kind of screwed I found concrete block to rest the camera on and tried my best, this was it!!! http://dmh65.smugmug.com/RidingRTW/9...SAM1213-XL.jpg with a little HDR help http://dmh65.smugmug.com/RidingRTW/9...reworks-XL.jpg |
Rolled out around noon, (over the old bridge out of Morgan City) if you didn't know, this is the same bridge Kris Kristopherson used to fly over as a helicopter pilot in 1969 when he writing "Me and Bobby McGee" for Janis Joplin - how about that for useless information :huh:huh:huh
http://dmh65.smugmug.com/RidingRTW/9...SAM1228-XL.jpg took a real leisurely ride not knowing if my planned route would work because of Hurricane IsaacI was only detoured once. It appeared that Louisiana got the worse of the flood but Missippippi got some real bad winds as trees were down everywhere http://dmh65.smugmug.com/RidingRTW/9...SAM1229-XL.jpg http://dmh65.smugmug.com/RidingRTW/9...SAM1234-XL.jpg http://dmh65.smugmug.com/RidingRTW/9...SAM1235-XL.jpg I rode thru towns that people and time had forgotten about but the hurricane had no trouble finding http://dmh65.smugmug.com/RidingRTW/9...djusted-XL.jpg http://dmh65.smugmug.com/RidingRTW/9...-adjust-XL.jpg http://dmh65.smugmug.com/RidingRTW/9...SAM1236-XL.jpg Ended the day at Lincoln State Park in Mississippi and was the only one there...besdies the 'gators who don't like loud music http://dmh65.smugmug.com/RidingRTW/9...SAM1245-XL.jpg http://dmh65.smugmug.com/RidingRTW/9...SAM1246-XL.jpg |
Back roads and rainlots of both them, riding thru Mississippi into Alabama, going by big old houses for the rich to live in and big factories for the poor to work in
http://dmh65.smugmug.com/RidingRTW/9...SAM1248-XL.jpg http://dmh65.smugmug.com/RidingRTW/9...SAM1255-XL.jpg When I crossed the state line it was on a small back road which Mississippi cared about but Alabama didnt, so much so it went from pavement to gravel to sand to mud in about mile, and then was washed out due to last nights 8 inches of rain, time to double back! http://dmh65.smugmug.com/RidingRTW/9.../SAM1253-L.jpg http://dmh65.smugmug.com/RidingRTW/9...SAM1252-XL.jpg but on the double back I did find this http://dmh65.smugmug.com/RidingRTW/9...emapped-XL.jpg |
rode from Alabama thru a little Georgia and into North Carolina, lots of back roads
http://dmh65.smugmug.com/RidingRTW/9...emapped-XL.jpg http://dmh65.smugmug.com/RidingRTW/9...3-fused-XL.jpg http://dmh65.smugmug.com/RidingRTW/9...IMG0303-XL.jpg but no blue sky until I saw some mountains http://dmh65.smugmug.com/RidingRTW/9...SAM1268-XL.jpg I took the Tatum Gap, which is part of the Trail of Tears from the early 1800’s http://dmh65.smugmug.com/RidingRTW/9...IMG0314-X2.jpg http://dmh65.smugmug.com/RidingRTW/9...SAM1273-XL.jpg http://dmh65.smugmug.com/RidingRTW/9...SAM1270-XL.jpg BTW look out for 40 foot purple gorillas!!! http://dmh65.smugmug.com/RidingRTW/9...SAM1261-XL.jpg |
