the bike will last as long as it lasts...a little profound! but then i get another

cost is relevant to how you travel...for me its about 10-12,000 pounds a year at most, usually a lot less

Over 15 years that's potentially 180,000 !!!!!! I guess I could sell my house, but not sure there's that much equity tied up in it. Perhaps one of my kidneys?????????

I've just booked the wife in for her op next week!

rtwpaul 31-08-12 14:04

if you read earlier somewhere in this report i explain how...yes financial planning is all part of it along with route planning...where there's a will there's a way...or in your case a kidney :mbounce:

leaving in the morning and actually ready ahead of time and packed ready to go after being in Louisiana for two weeks, i did a neck bearing swap and the races as well as the old ones have 60,000 miles and showing some wear

http://dmh65.smugmug.com/5000mileadv...SAM1161-XL.jpg

put on a new rear tire, i use Kenda K270 and this rear has 9960 miles on it and still has 4mm of tread left, pretty good wear i would say?

http://dmh65.smugmug.com/5000mileadv...SAM1158-XL.jpg

i also switched from soft bags to hard bags for the rest of the trip, i used a one man tent with the soft bags as it packs down small, i have a new two man that on paper the dimensions are very similar, but it didn't look like it when it arrived

http://dmh65.smugmug.com/5000mileadv...SAM1162-XL.jpg

i did a test run to see it set up

http://dmh65.smugmug.com/5000mileadv...SAM1163-XL.jpg
http://dmh65.smugmug.com/5000mileadv...SAM1164-XL.jpg
http://dmh65.smugmug.com/5000mileadv...SAM1166-XL.jpg

once i took it down it packed very small

http://dmh65.smugmug.com/5000mileadv...SAM1168-XL.jpg
http://dmh65.smugmug.com/5000mileadv...SAM1169-XL.jpg

main objective is to get it into the Jesse Luggage and it fits

so the bike packed looks like this, so i can walk away with the tank bag converted to a back pack and not be concerned as its all locked down

i have the rotopax for just incase gas, most of the time they will be empty until i get into the mountains in central america

http://dmh65.smugmug.com/5000mileadv...IMG0229-XL.jpg

so its more time for adventure before dementia
