Thunder in the Valleys, April 2nd/3rd - Novices very Welcome

PLEASE NOTE-THIS RIDEOUT IS NOW OPEN TO ALL RIDERS WITH TKC80 TYPE TYRES AND IT HAS BEEN EDITED.

Jasext and I have been putting together a Novice Offroad Rideout on Saturday April 2nd, however it is open to all who have TKC80/MT21/etc. type of tyres. (These type of tyres are the minimum requirement.) And an possible optional road rideout on the Sunday 3rd.

I have some free accommodation/camping arranged, along with a BBQ.

The rideout is based near the beautiful Brecon Beacons area, just over the border into Wales.

Schedule for the Rideout.

Arrive in Wales, at a location that is "secret", about a half-hour ride from the Bridge, on Friday Evening April 1st.

There are 3 spare Beds in a bunkhouse and plenty of camping area at a secluded and beautiful riverside location, (no charge, but a donation is optional towards Matt Gardiners Marathon Attempt) with a cracking pub a short walk away, and an Evening BBQ. Everyone will be expected to "chip in" for BBQ and any beers however, at cost price.

On Saturday after a fry up, we will ride over to meet Jase (about a 45 min ride) for a specially selected Novice trail ride, especially suited to all XT's.

If, after the Offroad event on Saturday, anyone would like to stay over on the Saturday night for a road rideout on the Sunday, this is optional, depending on your interest.

IF THE UPTAKE IS SLOW OR LITTLE INTEREST, IT WILL BE OFFERED ON TWO OTHER FORUMS. BUT YOU LOT GET FIRST BITE!

MAXIMUM OF 5/6 RIDERS PLUS MYSELF AND JASON IF IT IS MAINLY NOVICES. (we haven't decided on numbers yet) We may extend it to ten riders, depending on the amount ( lack ) of novices.

Please indicate your interest/booking below

Tony660x 16-02-11 13:36

I am not to fussed about sleeping over but would be interested in the Saturday off roading. I could meet you at the meeting place ready for the ride. Would my xtx be ok? And just turn up for the Saturday ride?

richardsracingmad 16-02-11 13:42

yes, that will be fine, it will be good to see you. And if you do change your mind, you have somewhere to crash-out.

You will get issued with more details in the near future.

If you want to come, just confirm on here

Thanks

I hope so as I dont have MX gear either.

I have just spoken to Jase, and really you do need proper supportive boots and protective and suitable clothing for where we are going..it is going to be a lot tougher terrain than Lakelands, but all "doable" for a novice. But a tough Novice event.

At the end of the day, we don't want any injuries, and this can be easily sorted by getting the appropriate clothing. And supportive boots are a must for this ride.

Another very important factor is going to be the weather. If it is dry for a few days beforehand, the Tourance type of tyres will do-just . If not, and the ground is wet/waterlogged, Jase says we can skirt around the really bad bits, but it will still be hard going on Tourance type tyres in some areas.

I have just spoken to Rooster (my HUMM 2011 teammate) and he has now opted out of this rideout, due to the "more challenging" terrain for the tyres he has.

So, much as we aim this rideout at Novice riders, I now have to say that you really ideally need TKC80/MT21 type tyres . And I know that many will not be able to run these type of tyres, if you are of the "Supermoto" XTX style. I'm sorry if I have let anyone down.

I am opening-up this rideout to all XT660.com members who would like to come, but Novices are preferred, as "us novices" don't get many opportunities at these type of rideouts.

jasext 17-02-11 21:44

Just like to add ,i have done this route on my Tenere with a bad leg .You will have a great day out and something to look back on as i will have a video and camera with me as always .The weather does cause a factor down here as some of the lanes get quite wet and slippery and it would become very dangerous to the guys on road based tyres .

So come on guys get your names down for a geat weekend with beautifull views and good company ,what more could you ask oh and it's free ,some guides around here charge 180 for up to 8 people and they're fully booked

richardsracingmad 17-02-11 21:49

Jase ....maybe we have to change the title "Novice Rideout" to "Novices very Welcome" ....but I can't.

So, I think for now, we should see if we get anymore novices, and then maybe re-title it as just a normal rideout?

What do you think?

Tomsdad 17-02-11 22:01

Jase/Rich....I did notice that this was a novice ride and will happly stand aside for anyone who would like to take their first steps to green laning/byway riding. If there is room for a less then novice (I still fall off like the best of them),then keep my name down, but if not.....just make sure you all have a good day.

Cheers,
Andy.

richardsracingmad 17-02-11 22:19

no...you are a Novice !!!!! no wriggling out of it now.....! You can be the sweeper#!

Tomsdad 17-02-11 22:45

:icon_eek:Cheers .....here's one of my better days-

No worries take me out the list then, but let it be noted I did not pull out at the last minute, but due to the fact I am on an XTX with 90% road orientated tyres I fully understand I am not really equiped for the day.

Have a good weekend all. Look forward to the photos.

Sorry Tony......I can tell you that you should jump at a Salisbury Plain rideout, (a hint to tomsdad,), but I think this one will be just too difficult from the sounds of it. See you at a Salisbury one Tony?

Anyways......

Slightly scatched Teneres with Mitas tyres are now acceptable, and West Country riders! :-
