Riding on snow/ice

Is it a good idea to take the bike for a winter ride?
I never tried it but I sure like to try - back side is that I don't want to buy new plastic due to a low sider. Is it something to try at all or is it better to leave the bike in the garage?

Depends on your skill. Personally I would rather eat slugs than go out on the bike in the snow. I have a car a van and a 4x4 so don't need to.

My advice would be stay off the bike. It will end up on its side and if that is not appealing then don't crash for the sake of it..

It is great fun though ,i used to ride my XTR in all weathers but ice is very very tricky ,much prefer the snow .
Went out last sunday for a spin ,covered about 15-20 miles in about 5 hours

Great fun in the snow with the right bike which can take the falls but not the Tenere. I wouldnt risk my travel bike on the ice as it took me a while and lots of hard earned cash to get it just as I like it.

If I had a crosser then I would be out in the snow messing around

I have parked up my XTX until the snow & ice goes as well. There is nothing to be gained from me smashing my pride and joy up. I will wait. It better clear up soon, my MOT is due mid January.

When I had my bike, I went out for a hairy ride with a bird on a fazer and she video it ( the ride that is... the rest is not for your eyes) :BaseballHat_LNY2EG:

Rinding in the snow/ice/traffic & sh*t

Watch the bit near the end, with a red van, first we got lost cause the sat nav took us to a cul de sac which it reckoned was a through-road and instead now was all new houses, then she decides she will lead, because she knew the way, at one points she sits behind a red van, causing me to fall asleep, I was bored stiff and since I have never been one to hang about specially behind vans, I flew past them, saying latersssssssss!

I'm with Mike Wright, If You wear the right clothing and keep warm, and have a winter bike it can still be great to get out and ride in winter.

It's not everyone's cup of tea.

If you have a winter bike set up for the harsh conditions, plus the right tyres you can get grip in the snow.

That said I would not take my Tenere out in these condition.:confused3:

here is a clip of us trying to get out of Gayle {near Hawes} over to Buckden.
