Kev was kind enough to let me help him test this mod and i can say it works
it only took about 10 mins to fit loaded one of Kevs maps and went for a 50ish mile run town and country ran well at higher speed and it happily ran at 30 mph in 4th gear and 40mph in 5th , there is hardly any surging on the bike now i would say at least 90% better

This is very true Paul. I can run mine at 40mph in 5th, but thats not to say you should do it very often though as it can stress the engine a little when you open the throttle.

It is however a good sign because it means you are able to map that fueling area on the bike to the point where you can do it.

Before hand, I had to be doing a minimum of 50mph before attempting to put the bike into 5th because it buck like a broncho ;)

From the sound of it...my bike already runs better than yours, Paul, as I had a custom dyno (Iknow figures were a bit wonky) but my bike has not been a bucking bronco...don't forget Paul, they have different fuel in Aus.

I think with the guys who ARE NOT into modding like us, the "main stream" of XT riders, if you get Kev's fuel mod, and the O2 Mod, you can "ride and adjust". And it should be 100% better!

No i have not had it on a dyno i am running a map Kev sent and it seems to work so don't think i will bother

personally speaking, with what I have fitted with my autotune and my own fuel map because of it, my bike is 100% fixed without a doubt.

It rides so incredibly smooth now, the difference is incredible.

I agree a custom map may be required to make the bike run 100% better.
But i am happy with the map i got of Kev and will give it another longer run when the weather is a bit warmer to see if makes any difference

Not at all it is a O2 eliminator, which connects to the cooling system that turns off the O2 sensor closed loop circuit on a XT660X/R, when the cooling system reaches 100C the mod turns off & allow the ECU to see the correct water temp so the fan can run at the correct time.

This is my current fuel map that was built for good fuel economy manly for work & back. This map is on my 2009 XTX with a 11 ECU & my NEW O2 mod.

As you can see the A/F ratio is very stable, mapped using a Power Commander.

Do you think a Staintune SFI can work with your mod? I've got an 08 xtx with a 11 ecu, stage 1, 2 air filters and 2 in 1 exhaust. The surging while commuting is absolutely unacceptable and stumbling across this new mod development is rather exciting to say the least...

It should work, you would need to play a bit with the SIF to find a happy medium, I can advise on the settings where you need to set the SIF I would be keen to hear your results.

If you are not happy with the results send the mod back & I will give you back your money less postage.

The mod has received hardly any response, so not sure how long I will be making them, we will see over the next few months how the mod goes. I still have my O2 mod on my bike & have not put the 06 ECU back on, it goes just fine with the O2 mod on the 09 (11) ECU.

I'm sorry to hear that. I have been waiting for spring but I've also been hoping to find a cheap PC3 before I order, since I can't use this mod without one.

Please give a heads up before you stop making them, and I will most certainly buy one then at the latest.

What do you think Kev, can that be used instead of a PC3?

EDIT: I did now find a few posts saying it's basically a variable resistor to richen/lean across the rev range. (a'la Kev fuel mod I presume?)
In other words it will not do the job for this.

It is a variable resistor like my fuel mod & connects to the air temp sender, which is switched via a switch panel, it can't fine tune the resistance as mine does.

It will not work with the new O2 mod.

Still early days we will see how the mod goes this year.

I made up 15 mods & have sold 3, + I have 5 other testers with mods so there are in total of 9 including the one on my bike running on the XT's, I have 6 left in stock.

I think:

1. that maybe people don't understand what it is, or does ???

2. or....it's just a VERY slow take-up on it.....(it has been a harsh winter over here.)

3. or....people are "riding-round" the issue

I don't think I have ever sold a mod to Germany.

Most of the other XT660 forums copy my stuff. I found a guy that has copied my fuel mods & is making them & selling them using all my pictures & installation instructions. So the workings of this O2 mod is been kept between two people & won't be disclosed for now. I found another guy in Grease seeding my mod book for free over the net, I have shut his links down twice in 6 months.

As you say your winter has been a bad one, I will give it a few months to see if I make up a second batch. As long as my bike is good, that is the reasons for all my mods, to improve my bike.

The raising & lowering links only lasted for 2 batches.

I will build mods if I can help out other riders & there is a demand for a mod, it costs quite a bit of money just to have these mods lieing around. At one stage I had 600 pounds of mods in stock.

I've still got my original prototype fitted to my bike but will make a better one in time now that im a little more Savvi with electronics :)

I'm dissapointed with the uptake though, its saddening to see. Sure enough, there's probably people complaining about the problem with the bike, here's a solution but little interest.

Granted, to cure this problem does require a considerable outlay what with a power commander AND this mod and maps/dyno time just to sort a problem that technically, Yamaha should fix.

Kev, you say that with this mod you provide also a fuel map. How well does that work? Do you have a fuel map that would work for me? I'm on a 2008 xt-x with dna stage 1 and 2 filters, original exhaust system.

I sure do have maps even for your setup, these maps are set at 13.2:1 A/F ratio on my bike & have been tested for a few months.

Placed my order. Gotta get a PC as well, dunno where from.

Great work Kev and team. Hopefully this will smooth out the bike a lot at low revs, I always hear this clicking noise..sounds like its coming from the throttle lever, dont know if thats possible?? and then it starts to get a bit jerky, nothing too bad kinda think it adds a bit of personality. ha :)

The clicking noise is usually from the AIS valve, I would also do the AIS mod.

Well I haven't fitted mine yet...will do in the next couple of days (over the weekend)...I'll let you all know what I think of it.

Kev has supplied me with a PC111 map that will be perfect for me, so all I have to do is fit it, load the modified map, and go for a ride.

As my bike is at the moment (standard engine with cans, DNA3, PC111) it is running rich, so I hope Kev's map is an improvement. If not, I will be able to compare both maps, and adjust the figures, use a little guesswork, to find a nice setting.

I'll drain my tank off..and put in 95 Ron petrol.

Don't suppose theres any use in fitting it when I don't have a PC3 or air filters yet. lol

No use fitting it without a Power Commander, you need to fit the O2 mod, Power Commander & load one of the maps I sent you at the same time.

Tonight i fit kevs o2 eliminator, dna 1+2, and PC3.

Surging/jerking at low speed is almost completely gone. Certainly I do not notice the closed circuit kick in any more, and bike seems much happier. Smooth at low speeds, only went for a quick ride, I'm sure i will appreciate it more in the morrning on the way to work.

Bike is a bit quicker with the dna 1+2 +PC3. Expecially taking off from stop. Love the induction noise. But I think i need to remove the AIS cause its popping like mad.

Couple of pics of the bike, no pics of Kevs o2, since i'm not happy with the way I fitted it atm, want to rotate it a little so its not touching the throttle body. Coolent spils out everywhere so will have to wait till its cool again to tinker with in some more.

Bike is very easy to work on, all parts come off really easy and no trouble following kevs instructions.
