Thanks for your feedback, glad you are happy with the mods.

I am back from a week of 4 days of mock tests of the past 4 years of studies that I have been doing, my brain is completely drained.

Then todays finals I wrote 6 X 1 hour papers of practical & theory in one day one after the other, it has been a very stressful week for me, I will know the results in 2 to 3 weeks time.

I will work through all the Emails & PM's from this week, there are 136 all together + forum questions from a few different forums.

Spinner Dan 25-09-12 08:40

Which one?

Geeze I'm a dumb-ass, I admit it. :toothy11: New to the forum and have been tryin' to follow the threads on these mods - but now I'm just damn confused. Obviously Kev has kept refining his kit over the years but I'm just not sure now what I need for my new R... It's a standard 2011, no PC, snorkle removed, CO adjusted up five, standard cans for now.

I'm assuming the new O2 controller supercedes the O2 eliminator? What about the Kev fuel mod - do I need one of those too or does the new O2 controller trump that too.

Supamanaint says the first thing I should get is a O2 controller, but is that all I need with this mod, and is it worth it since I don't have better cans or a PC?? Do I even need a PC once I've fitted the O2 controller?

Sorry, Kev, you must be pulling your hair out trying to bring numbnuts like me up to speed - so just give me the short answer if you could be so kind.

Thanks... Dan

Dan no question is dumb if you don't know the answer.

We have 2 parts to the fuel map, Closed Loop & Open loop, keep this in the back of your mind.

From 2007> the XT660 X & R's come with an O2 sensor for emission control, the O2 sensor has nothing to do with good fuel consumption or max HP it is quite the opposite. The O2 sensor trys to keep the A/F ratio when you are at constant throttle opens to an A/F ratio of 14.7:1, at this A/F ratio the bike is very lean & runs at reduce power & emissions to keep the Greenies happy, most motorcycle engines do not like an A/F ratio of 14.7:1 & respond with a surge.

So what we do with my O2 controller mod is to trick the Engine ECU into thinking the bike is running very lean, the ECU sees this lean voltage from the O2 Controller mod & increases the fuelling to approx 13.6:1 which where we get the best fuel consumption. This part of the fuel map is called the Closed Loop.

In the Open Loop our XT's run between 13.6 & 14:1, we get the most HP & Torque for an A/F ratio of 13.2:1, this part of the fuel map can be adjusted with a fuelling device like a Power Commander or one of my fuel mods. A Power Commander would alway be my first choice if you have the funds.

So to answer your question you can just fit a O2 controller on your bike which will correct the lean closed loop circuit & the bike will ride smoother, you would get the best results with a fuelling device + O2 Controller, with both mods you are correcting the A/F ratio in the Open & Closed loops & the bike will respond well.

If you are after a O2 Controller mod with or without a Fuel mod I can post next Business day.

O2 controller

Hey thanks, Kev. Great explanation. :YouRock: My previous bikes have all had carbs so fuel injection was a leap of faith for me. Anyway, I'm convinced. I want one. I'll PM you to discuss the handover...

Cheers mate,
Dan

Hi Kev,

I've been following this thread and that explanation made a noob like me understand what the new o2 controller is all about. So my question is do you have any left? In that case I would like to have one.

Does the O2 come with fitting instructions. I also have another question. I have recently bought a second hand PCV that was fitted on a raptor 700. I'm quite sure I have read somewhere that this one would fit on the xt660z. Is that right? The number on the PCV is 22-002.

Thanks in advance!

Kev 26-09-12 13:45

5 left of the second batch, PM sent, the O2 instructions can be downloaded from the link below & I do send the same instructions with the mod. The Raptor PCV's do work on the XT660's there are a few guys runing them.

O2 Controller success

I've already PMed Kev to let him know directly, but I'm posting here too so others get my feedback.

I've fitted the new O2 Controller on my 2011 R - took all of 5 minutes to plug it in and mount it - and took it out for a ride. I was really trying hard to test it at the usual constant throttle positions and rev range where the surging is really noticeable 2nd & 3rd gear was where it felt worse but now with the O2 Controller it feels great! Heaps smoother no doubt. I think I can still detect a slight surge every now and then but nothing like before... and I mean I was tryin' real hard to notice.

My bike is set up as follow: standard cans, standard air filter, snorkle removed, C1 adjusted up 5 from original. I havent done anything to the open loop yet.

So I give it the big thumbs up :coolsmiley: This is how it should run straight out of the factory.
Great work Kev!

Thanks for your feedback Dan, everyones feedback is valued good or bad.

As long as there is a demand I will keep making the O2 Controller mods.

Dan Up your Co1 by another 5 this will help the part throttle mixture in the open loop fuelling, also make sure there is no free play in your rear sprocket holder & your chain is not to lose as these items also effect the surging. I would also recommend doing my twist grip mod this will give you more control at small throttle openings.

I still 4 X O2 controllers in stock & expect 10 OEM sets of connectors in two weeks time, I have bought up every connector for my US supplier & now have a further 10 set of connectors on back order. If anyone wants one don't leave it to long as the connectors are in short supply from the manufacture.

Been using the dynojet "regulator/modulator" (not the optimizer) for the last 3 weeks on my 2011 XTX, and it has been driving me insane with heavy surging at around 4500rpm.

Got the eliminator from Kev 2 days ago, and all i can say is wow, its a dream to ride the bike again, no more surging in the 4500rpm area (I have tried everything to get it to surge but with no result).

Dont have the exact word for it but its bad.

I can definitely recommend this eliminator to everyone with a 07> XT

Thanks alot Kev once again for an awesome mod.
