Just out of interest, did you guys have any punctures and were you carrying kit to deal with a puncture if you did have one? Just putting together my kit to go but want to travel light as possible. I am aware of the issues with punctures and tyre pressures and as a result tend to keep my pressures at road levels even off roading. My tyres are TKC's with 1000 miles, give or take, on them.
Enjoying the videos. Very good. Cheers |
No punctures as such....but i felt pretty deflated afterwards:rotf[1]:

I've never had a puncture out on the Plain, but know a few that have. I carry enough kit to change a tube on the trail, but if it was a rear puncture and I was not going to spoil a ride out, then I'd call the recovery to get me home.A front tube change takes less then half an hour but the rear is a complete sh!t to do on the side of the road. I run TKC's and MT21's depending how wet it is and both at 25 psi. Hope you have a good trip over... Cheers, Andy. |

I will post up those streetmap links of the gravel byways asap, and if I tie them in with a photo, you should see what the going is like. Cheers, Andy. |
Thanks Andy. Looking forward to having a play on the plain soon. Then hopefully I'll be able to join you all on the next ride out down there without looking like a complete basket-case :-)
However if I turn up wearing one of those big inflatable sumo suits you'll understand why Cheers L |

I carried front and rear tube with tools to take wheels out and trye levers also a small electric pump |
Rick just out of interest what do you carry to break the bead on the back wheel?? After I picked up a rear puncture a couple of months ago I've been sorting out a more appropriate tool kit, but the one thing that eludes me is something portable to break the bead as I struggled to get the tyre off last time (ended up calling a friend who has one of those home-workshop tyre jig thingies he did it for me), but I'd like to be a bit more self-sufficient

I put the bike on the center stand, and use the side stand to break the bead. I just lean the bike over so the side stand on the tyre and the bead breaks every time (so far, 3 tyre changes) including today just refitted my road tyres |
Nice Wouldn't have thought of using the bike itself, but it makes sense.
Am I right in thinking only the back wheel has the safety ridge? |
