Getting rid of the gray!
Decided to get the gray away! on my red Ten
Got some RustOleum plastic paint and set about turning my red gray and black ten into a red and black ten! I'm very pleased with the results! That realy suits the coulour change, looks well with the black front m'guard too. Nice alternative for those of us who can't get colour matched high mudguards.

Looks good

Looks good can you take a close up of the panels.
These pics have inspired me to do a panel paint, another job for the winter methinks. What type of rustoleum paint did you use?? |

Looks better in black.
I like the Limpopo sticker, crossed that river quite a few times in my life. |

Could go for Yellow for that bumble bee look, or Red it looks good the other way around
anyone know of a way of having an outline of the bike so you can play with different colour schemes.

Nice one Jules - looks excellent!
Kemizz - I reckon all black would look the business, especially with gold wheels? http://i492.photobucket.com/albums/r...t/DSCF2841.jpg Infact, that would have saved me a lot of money in paint! http://i492.photobucket.com/albums/r...n/IMG_6686.jpg Jxx |

Thanks, Frame and clutch protectors as well as headlight protector is made by a local company (South Africa) called Hyde www.hyde.co.za Well made and a perfect fit! I wanted to paint the end caps of the exhaust today, but it seems there's one screw that connects them to the bike you can't get to without dismanteling the whole rear. That put me off it, done enough work today.
Like what you done Jules, makes it look real hardcore.:023: |

Yes I am indeed using the running lights as indicators, I also have 2 rows of Orange LED's side by side with the rear brake and tail light that are my indicators, Works a treat and there is a lot less to break now :-) To cover the original front indicator mounting points I made up some special epoxy domed stickers, I am making new ones at the moment with a nice red background, http://home.telkomsa.net/edgepc/tenere/blackten1.JPG Jules |
Neat mods with the indicators Jules...
I did the same with the fronts, and just incase anyone hasn't seen them, allow me to hi-jack this thread a moment with an alternative for the rear: http://i492.photobucket.com/albums/r...x/DSC00010.jpg http://i492.photobucket.com/albums/r...x/DSC00007.jpg J x |
what bulbs are you using for the indicators at the front, I found that the 5watts bulbs not very bright for indicators

That said, I tried some orange coloured (5w I think) bulbs I had at home, and they work very well too (they are what's in my bike at the moment) - the reflector is surprisingly effective... J x |

Hi JMo, slightly off topic since I see your cool bike again. With all the mods you have done in particular the filters and single can exhaust (and Power Commander too??), I am curious to know the gas mileage. You mentioned how your mod bike has 'opened up' around your Legend race, and I would like to know if the fuel efficiency did not suffer much due to the modifications. I think many have said the stock gas mileage is at 400-450+ km per tank. Any comments/data would be greatly appreciated. |

To be honest, I've not really done any specific tests, as on the rally the mileage was all over the place due to harder use, and also my odometer is out now too with the larger rear wheel... but I'd say there is perhaps a 10%-15% drop overall?, it's not significant if you are being gentle... that said, there was one [competitive] day that it struggled to reach 260kms on a full tank, that was a particularly enjoyable, if slightly nerve-wracking experience! I'll be heading to the Horizons Unlimited meeting on the Tenere this weekend, so will endeavor to see how many miles/kms I get from a full tank (allowing for the odometer, and using my GPS) in 'general' riding conditions... Got rid of the grey a few weeks back, used No Nonsense Acrylic matt spray available from..... Screwfix Direct. Works really well and so fast drying you wouldnt believe. 1no 400ml can covers all panels incl rear grabs. At 5.49 / can its well worth buying a few for touch up if rq'd.
Will post some pics asa. |
The next step :-)
As a trial I took some black vinyl and covered the screen up, Wasn't sure if it would work or if the total black out would annoy me on the road but after 400k's yesterday I like it a LOT! Looks sooo mean! Jules http://home.telkomsa.net/edgepc/tenere/valjuly6.JPG http://home.telkomsa.net/edgepc/tenere/valjuly7.jpg http://home.telkomsa.net/edgepc/tenere/valjuly24.jpg |

Hey, I've just painted my panels black (looks awesome on a white bike) and want to black out the screen as well. What exactly did you use to cover it? Was it easy? |

I checked out the website. I wonder how that espresso color on the gray bits and on the high front fender would fit a khaki Tenere? The bike would be kind of like a two-tone brown then. Or would it be too much? Jami |
hi monkee
