|
yeah will post some pics wish it was easier to so mine never seem to work no matter what site I use
like the yellow also nice and safe be seen did consider hi vis green (MONster energy) found some interesting stone effect paint and chrome ! i thought that may look too judge dredd i think orange would attract the wrong crowd lol even tried spraying the grey panels through a mesh so that it had a carbon effect yeah i think all black is smart but there is a wedge of body work and its better broken up I guess the nice thing is it doesnt take long to remove the panels so playing with colours aint so bad unless someone could do a photoshop tenere where we could all play at our own colours |
Any tips before painting those gray plastic covers would have been great!
1. Did you sand paper the surface before applying any colour? 2. Any primers? 3. Do you have any clear lacquer on top of it? |

With my bike we sanded the texture flat too (as I wanted a smooth finish), but at the very least you will need to key the plastic quite aggressively with a course sandpaper, then use a good layer of filer/plastic primer before applying the top coat. The paintshop that did mine originally said afterwards it took a lot more work than they envisaged to get the paint to adhere properly, but then end result was worth it: http://i492.photobucket.com/albums/r...t/DSCF3334.jpg That said, if you drop the bike, the paint is going to chip off the tank panels anyway... Perhaps paint the tank and headlight surround grey instead - like a battleship! http://i492.photobucket.com/albums/r...acute-2012.jpg Jxx |
I like it, all grey!

For 2013, at least here in Holland, Yamaha replaced some grey parts for black parts. For so far as I can see, only for the Matt-grey and the Blue one, the White one sticks to grey. So I think they can be ordered if you want them for an older model.
Greetz, Hans. |
I noticed that too. There appears to also be a matching matt black front mudguard.
I did notice though that on the Yamaha website they appear not to have actually taken pictures of the new colour schemes, just "photoshopped" the old ones! |
Snakeskin cammo!!!! :blob7:
http://i733.photobucket.com/albums/w...pseb6dc05e.jpg Not done em all yet and haven't offered them up to the thumping hearing aid but I think it will look really neat when it's all done :) |

Edit: oh, and Chris, those look awesome! |
I've been into my Yam dealer today to get quotes for these:
Prices are in GBP. I've tried to decipher what part is where, also doesn't seem to be a black bash plate? Cover 2 - 15.01 (High side fender?) Cover 1 - 15.01 (High side fender?) Scoop, Air 1 - 25.43 (Grab handles?) Scoop, Air 2 - 25.43 (Grab handles?) Cover, Tail 1 - 17.09 (Tail cover?) Tuning Fork Mark - 11.87 (???) Cover 2 - 23.74 (Low side fender?) I think your ideas are better than mine.
I've scouted through the parts manual, the tuning fork is on the front of the headlight cowling. There's no mention of grab handles or bash plate. Still, that's a lot of money. Might be better off getting them dipped? |
I've used plastic wrapping, I have another thread where you can see my bike in all white.
If you try to dip them in rubber plastic please let us know the results! :) But I think its hard to get decals to stick to the rubber surface. If thats what you want! |
