I don't get why people are criticising Yamaha for their pricing. The pound has slumped against the yen massively all due to our friend, Mr Brown. It's not just the super ten, when did 600cc sports bikes ever cost more than 9k for example? It's suddenly made bmws and ducatis arguable as an alternative and triumphs positively cheap.

For the Dollar, 107 Yen, 90 Yen (a 16% drop) and 93 Yen (a 3% recovery) respectively. For the Euro, 168 Yen, 120 Yen (a 39% drop) and 126 Yen ( a 14% recovery) respectively. So as A7 UFO states, it is the collapse of the pound that has caused the problem. The Euro had a similar problem but they have recovered better than us. Until the rates change dramatically (possibly after our election) the situation is not going to change. If the Yen was the same 212 to the pound now as it was in July 08, the new Super Tenere would be about 9100. It still costs them the same (relatively) to make it in their own country. :biggob: |
Yes, but bikes are usually priced differently in different countries depending on market forces.
eg an R1 which is 12495 in the UK but is 8711 in the USA, this isn't just due to exchange rate fluctuations as there has been this sort of difference in pricing for years. We all know that the manufacturers basically make up prices as they go along both for pikes and for parts. |
