who's ordered one?
Well I've had the e-mail from Yamaha telling me how to reserve one. But 13.5k on a bike that I cant even sit on or see in all its glory is not for me. I will hold off and wait until they turn up in the dealers. It certainly looks to be a capable and comfortable long distance bike.
Besides I've just found out what the total cost of my daughters university fees will be for the next three years!! :cry[1]: So Has anyone bitten the bullet and reserved one on line?? :069: |
Nope. Playing the waiting game too .... unless I succumb to the charms of a KTM990SMT in the meantime!!!
|
Already have a Tenere that can do everything I want, so no thanks. =)
|
i have to say the looks are growing on me but too expensive for me!!
|
How Much!
As loyal as I am to Yamaha, thats more than BMW money!
|
At only 13.5k I might just order 2, . . . . NOT!!
Il stick with what Ive got for now. |
Don't do it!!
At that price you'd be better off with a Brit-built Tiger, and a pile of money left over for a proper trailee!
|
Changed my mind !
I had the green light from SWAMBO but it appears that I cannot buy it without those small/crap boxes. I have a set of them for my 660 and buying them was an error.
On top of that 13.5k is very high but not too high because I will probably get one eventually, perhaps in a year or so when I hit the road properly. Having said that my GSA is getting sold so the 660Z has got its work cut out. |
I'd be interested to hear in detail how you get on with it Keith. I also considered the 990 Adventure (or was it Adventurer? are there two versions?) and had a good poke around at the Dortmund show. I loved that too, other than the seat fealt strange - hard, which it's known for, but also seemed to have a 'mixed compound' if you see what I mean, almost like it had different material filling in 'zones', as it were. Not sure if it's me, a rogue bike or meant to be like that. Please let me know how you find yours.
I'm leaning toward the SMT because I'd keep the Tenere anyway and see the Adventure closer to that and the SMT closer to the V Strom it would be replacing. Anyway, hope it goes well, you enjoy it and you let us all know what it's like with a few pictures. All the best. |

Nice KTM!
13.5k is bonkers Yamaha.. That's 2 new or 3 used 660's. So wreck one on the Pan American and donate it, then wreck the second on the way to Magadan and donate it, then keen the 3rd for you at home - all nice and shiny!! Yamaha are having a proper laugh - doubt their sales figures will agree they have the price right.. We'll see.. |

Yep,
When funds allow it will be the KTM SMT990................. I have always been an avid Yamaha fan/follower but sorry they have now shot themselves in the foot it seems. Beefier version of the 660.... make it a 900cc twin with 85 bhp., price it at 8500 and bingo........even unstartable BMW had the foresight to do this with their gs800 which is selling like hotcakes. Happy days................ |

I did order a Super Tenere. The dealer told me to expect the delivery in June :partyondude:
I will put my XT660Z on sale :( |
Just had my first look at the new Multistrada, a pre-production bike at the dealers.
Very nice indeed..... Waiting for a test ride, sometime in April maybe...... |

i really like the new multistrada, i would definatley have one over the new yam. shame i cant afford one! |
Just ordered one.......08 Ten and 09 GSA have got to go.
I retire tomorrow and SWAMBO retired last Friday. We will be packing up to become nomads with our motorhome which will be a mobile house with the bike trailored on the back. MH will be used for Europe and USA then the bike alone will be used for the rest of the world. I know it is a lot of money but as I have said before, I need a big dual purpose Yam and the Ten is just not big enough for our needs. On top of that I just do not like the GSA - big mistake, I wish the S-Ten had been muted by Yamaha and not just roumour. . It is a big gamble but then again we gamble everytime we swing a leg over our bikes, lets face it they are dangerous and we only live once. Its also an expensive manourvre but this is my last chance to do anything this extravagant and if the S-Ten is anywhere near as good as my current Ten then I will not be dissapointed. I bought my 08 Ten without a test and am very happy with it. |
Great news Ray all those years of working has paid off and you are both starting a whole new adventure. I hope you enjoy the new bike and motorhome Ive met a few people on my travels who have dont just the same and really enjoy it.
One day we may meet on my travels and I will be expecting a cup of coffee!.... Heres to your retirement and new adventure for you both :occasion18::redwine: Let the adventures begin! |

Congratulations to you both Ray, on both counts, the retirement and placing of the order. I think the point you make about maybe never having the chance again is a crucial one. I'm sure you both must be very excited about the whole thing - it's going to be great for you! All that travel (and in comfort!!) with all those fantastic places to see and wonderful people to meet. When you hit Europe, drop by and say hello, we've plenty of room inside for you and bike and outside for the MH.
All the very best to you both, have a ball ........ and don't forget to keep us all in the loop with lots of travellers tales od daring-do!! |

Hi folks |
:applause:
Lol at that sig. Have a good retirement, sod the cost, live life and enjoy. |
Congratulations OGR
- hope you plans go well and you enjoy this time to the max. Much more importantly I hope we get loads of ride reports. Any chance you might make it to the HUMM (horizons Unlimited Mountain madness) |
I hope your retirement is everything you want it to be. All the very best, mate.
As for me ordering a new ST: I don't think it's an option in Oz yet, but even if it was, I feel the 660 defines "adventure tourer' as well as anything. I reckon the ST will be hampered by size, weight and cost, and maintenance costs. Over 20gA? NO WAY. Still, horses for ... etc etc |

You'll see this thing parked up at the HUMM, knock on the door and we'll crack open a beer (and any other Inmates on here - Jenny ?). I have to confess, I feel a bit of a fraud in this as opposed to a tent but I have slept in some God awful places in my time (like in the tree canopy of the Amazon following a capsize and 3 hour swim in the dark) so I can live with it ! http://www.cranham.co.uk/images/Fran...20BD%20006.jpg

Fingers crossed.... |
OGR, I was looking for a chance to say this, but... here it is:

I may be happy in retirement but age can be cruel to your brain !

It's two years old and the guy that had it first spent a LOT of money on it making it a go anywhere MH. Rear door has to widened yet to get SWAMBOs quad in and a tow bar has to be fitted to take the new XT1200Z. OGR |
Well done Ray have a great time in your new bus, it looks the dog's.

Well, congratulations to those who have ordered a Super Ten but on "the" Tenere forum that's not very many, one has to wonder if Yamaha has got the pricing wrong.
|
...or selling method. I mean, how many people buy a bike for 13500 on trust...from Yama-luvverly-kwalitee-cush-drive-rubbers-and-electriks-ha-ha-ha.
Yooooour avin a larf!!! |
I'm seriously considering it now... Hope its realibilty is better than the XTZ (its broken down AGAAINNN!!) first loverly perfect weekend, take my jacket liner out weekend. 3 miles from home. Wait for the pick up van..again.
Rubbish. |
The quality of the Super Tenere will be better then the 660(although mine's just fine with only some minor flaws), because it's built and manufactured in Japan and the 660 in Spain(at first in Italy).
|
My thoughts exactly. And I like to be patriotic (wifey is native japanese)

What is it that keeps breaking down on your bike ? Ray |
Rectifier was replaced about a month ago. Same symptoms saturday. They checked at the dealers after they came and collected me and the bike.
They are going to phone Yamaha to get a proper fix, rather than just replace the rectifier again... And everything is innertuberised and stuffed full of water repellant rubber friendly grease, and it was dry Saturday...and warm...and sunny...and I got 3 miles. |
