I have owned 5 yamaha, and this one is the WORST bike they have make in years, maybe if I see and test one I will change my mind, meanwhile I will consider it a big and fat varadero and yamaha engineers should think about adding a reverse gear at 2011.
have fun, j. |
Im not a fan of all the technology which is why I didnt get the BMW 800Gs as its not needed in my opinion and adds more risk if you ride away from normal routes. I do think its going to be a superb touring bike with ample power and if nothing fails it has alot of nice extra toys.
Between the GS and new Tenere I would buy the Tenere without doubt. |
I really do not understand what the fuss is about!
Yamaha went for the GS market and who ever read their Go Beyond yada yada teasers knew that this was the target. the more I ride my 660 off road the more it is obvious to me that a 1200 true off roader is nonsense. If I went for a RTW type bike this bike would be very high on my list. It has top of the line systems and Yamaha has a good reliability reputation.( I hope the fixed the regulator plug issue because I have a feeling that this bike is priced for downtown big shot lawyers:protest:) . As I come from a country that is only 500 Km long and less than 60 wide and none of our neighboring countries is to keen on me crossing the boarder on a bike or any other form so long distance riding in not an option, and since I am still quite a lousy off road rider that drops his bike once a trip at least I will stay with my 185 kg dry 660xtz for the moment. |
I want the motor for my XTX.

Today, I visited the Bikeshow in Dortmund, where Yamaha Germany had the new Super Tenere on display: in real life it looks way better then on the pics!
Solid built, not that biggish(except for the exhaust!). I was pleasantly surprised, hmmmm.... But, hell no, too expensive for me, not within my budget and I'm more then happy with my 660 Tenere. It proved that again today: it's a good bike, never missed a beat, even in the bad weather when I passed the border into Germany, snow, cold and wet and lots of salt on the road(near Essen there were even parts of highway where there was a speed limit of 60kmh!). But the Ten kept on runnin' strong, no worries! Yahoo!! Anyway, the new S10 looks mighty fine and if it does ride equally fine, they'll have a good competitor for the 1200GS Beemer. As of monday they can be ordered online, delivery probably in may. So Ray, good luck and have fun!! Greetz, Hans. |
So expensive I can't even be bothered to look at the spec.
TBH I would go for the R1200GS over it if I was going to part with that sort of cash as the residual value will almost certainly be better and the aftermarket parts bin way bigger. |

If the pricing strategy of the S10 has anything resembling the Ducati's Multistrada 1200's, then the 'first edition' price of the S10 may not be too bad:

BTW, the ducati weighs only 190kg dry. |
Probably a good bike, and made to suit the purpose that people actually use BMW GS's for, to the T.
But I am most definitely not in. Monumentally underwhelming, Yamaha have obviously just copied word for word the BMW marketing plan. If faced with the choice I would buy the GS. Honda launched this bike back in 1998... with the Varadero, Yamaha took 12 years to come up with this (and it looks very similar) = wow thats lame. Realistically everyone wants the Super Ten to be a WR450 front fork a TDM engine and an XT660z rear end. Sub 1000 cc's Oh and its totally overpriced for where and who it is pitching itself against. |
cuckoo land
It looks good, but it's too heavy, too expensive, and you can't get a test ride. So "no", I won't be buying one.
