The HP gain might not be much but look at that Torque gain, Torque is what you feel when opening the throttle.

richardsracingmad 21-01-11 14:11

this is a nice thread.
just have to get this stage 3 DNA for my bike.

but how is it working with this open box in rain?
specially the crankcase breahter filter should be getting wet if you have the bike standing outside in rain, or?

Hi F... well our expert Kev has prepared a step by step guide on how to fit it and its available in this forum, also another keen member "richardracingmad" has also fitted this and knows how to do it, so if you decide to buy it rest assured you won't be left alone, we will do all we can to assist you. Don't ask me I am not the mechanic type, but if you want it and you want the discount then do ask me by pm, because these filters are exclusive to us :660: and you can only buy from me by pm as they are made to order.

Thanks

Fuchs 19-02-11 20:29

Thanks!
i will send you an PM but not right now because i just bought my bike and for now im looking for all parts i will change and count everything together.

i do not worry for the fitting as i use to do most mechanic work by myself and are used to that.

just the question with wather is bothering me. i do not wanna have some rain dropping into the crankcase or something like that.
i will use my bike for the fun and for getting to work.
i often work night shifts and the bike will stay outside at work, even if it rains :(

Well do buy it, is my advice..I know they are expensive, but you will forget about the cost once you have it fitted. It will breathe much more life into your engine, and it is a very noticeable improvement, plus they look very cool.

And, if you ever do any more modifications to improve performance, this will be a great starting point.....and it will really compliment other mods.

Water can get in, but it is not bad, and water does not go past the air filter. I don't have a problem with it......

If you like , you can fit a gauze on the side of the airbox, ( Kev has done this) , which will more or less eliminate the water ingress.

that sounds really nice :)

like i said, im just looking around right now.
just got my bike and right now i have -20degrees and a lot of snow here in sweden.
had some miles on it but not that many :(
i would like to ride the bike in the original mode a bit more before i do some changes

but the stage3 kit sounds like something wich will be on the bike soon

No worries we are here when you are ready.

Kev 19-02-11 23:39

Rain water will not enter the filters as long as they are oiled correctly, the filter oil repels the rain water, water will enter the filters if the air box goes under water IE riding through deep water.

I have had my stage 3 air box since 2009 & never had any water problems & I ride my bike most day rain or sun shine.

I added a stainless steal mesh to one side of my air box to hide the pod filters from the police, as in Australia you are not allow to modify a XT660 at all, because it is a learner legal motorcycle.

Tha stage 3 air box offers the most gain out of the filters & exhaust mods, it does cost a bit but it is well worth the money.
