ah, I spoke too soon....... 16500 miles and a few hiccups. - had the chain jump off the rear sprocket on the way home a couple of weeks ago - the chain is knackered, the inside of the swingarm and the sprocket carrier are gouged so its been back to the dealer for new chain and sprockets, new sprocket studs and nuts, the inside of the swinarm has been touched in with paint on the damage and the sprocket carrier has been cleaned up and repainted. also had the rear tyre replaced.
first time I've had a chain come off a bike, although I knew the chain needed adjusting, I didnt think it was excessively loose.- something to watch in the future I suppose. the panniers have been replaced under warranty due to the hinge pins falling out, also the top box lock has been changed under a service bulletin due to the fact it (and the pannier locks) was getting harder and harder to unlock. the cush drive has also been replaced under warranty as it had almost melted!!!!! other than that its fine................ Tappets
I have checked tappet clearance on three Tenere's all done over 25,000 miles. They are all still in spec |

I've been waiting on my left sidecase for 2 month now, apparently the importer can't get them (or engine gards...). SO I may take the opportunity to get the RHS replaced too :p |
Did 36.000 km on the Tenere. No real problems. Exhaust valves needed adjusting at 20.000km en I am already on the 4th cain/sprocket set, they al got a tight spot in it. Now using 15/44 combination to see if that fixes the problem.

just back from the Elephant rally in Bavaria, carried out the 18,000 mile service at 17600 on last wednesday and fitted a set of TKC's. now at 19100 miles. the bike wouldnt start on the saturday morning even though it was turning over. we ended up trying to bump start it for just over 2 miles!!!! down the hill. after a while it ran but badly, then it just cleared itself and ran perfectly. I assumed it didnt like temperatures of minus 16. the next morning in mainz it wouldnt start again so i had to be towed by a GS1200A to the nearest garage where we stripped it diown to find no spark, once we dried and cleaned the coil it fired 1st time, so its off to the yamaha dealer later. other than the non starting it ran perfectly for 1500 miles fully loaded with a fat ******* on board at a steady 80 ish most of the time. TKC's are crap though........

Interesting thread. I struck a deal yesterday with my boss. Whilst I have a company car, I frequently have the joy of the dartford crossing, A12 and stuff. They are okay with me using my bike and paying me milage (at the same rate as the car..ie not as much as if I were using my own vehicle) - but as the XTZ seems very good on fuel it should be about okay. :001:
Anyway two Qs What is this crank case breather mod? would it relate to my 2009 XTZ?:dontknow: And the cush drive on mine (2600 miles) is pretty sloppy. :icon_frown: I'll do the Kev mod with some rubber pond liner. |
Crank case breather on the 09 model is already the new design so no problems there. Us 08 boys want the 09 bit!
Definately do the cush drive mod as Kev describes, gets rid of any snatchiness.:computer: |
