I've been having a hunt around for some fresh tires for the Z - the tourances are a bit restricting when the going gets crappy. I found these,

although the rear is a 130 profile rather than the 120 that the Z comes with. This is expensive rubber, and I'm fairly sure no-one has them on their Z yet, but we've an influx of ex-BMUU guys who may well have used them.

Any thoughts ??

I was leaning towards the MT21's but they are only rated to 55MPH (or is it 50?) in the UK. Having said that my mate runs them on his KLR and they keep up with the Michelin Enduro's on my TTR

Hey GULG,

I've been through a set of these on my xChallenge. I generally like Metzeler tyres, but wasn't a huge fan of these. They were a little squirrelly at anything more than 70mph, and were very sensitive to pressure changes.
They are a competitor to the TKC-80, but they are not as good IMO.

Off-road, they handle the loose stuff pretty well, but deep mud is an issue, as the narrow tread pattern means they clog up pretty easily.

In terms of wear, I got a little less than 3k miles out of the rear before it was completely toasted, and that was about 80% road, 20% dirt. I'd imagine on the heavier Tenere, the rear would be done in about 2.5k miles.

Had them on my 1200GS, they have more grip in the dirt than TKC's, make a lot of noise on the streets but have enough grip on the streets when wet to drive normally. I think it is a better choice if TKC are not enough for you in the dirt. You can also have a look at Pirelli MT21

MT21s have either an R or P speed rating that's 150kph or 170kph according to their UK website.

They are cheap but have a short life on the rear.
