Bike Stand. Build Your Own.

I bought this MX steel lift stand made by CRC or Excel Pro for $ 90.00. looks
like a decent quality stand but won't be much good for my 99 Yamaha XT600E. the bike's skid plate limits ground clearance to only 9"

A 2" difference may not look like much, but requires a 6" block under the rear
tire just to get the stand under the bike, then with the stand at it's lowest
position (under the bikes full weight) the leverage ratio required to lift the
bike is too great, even with my 185lbs standing on the lifts lever I was barely
able to lift the bike to the locked position, at which point the rear tire is
probably 16" off the ground ! they say this stand works for MXers, Dualsports
and mini's. but really it's more suitable for a 220lb Motocrosser with 14" of ground clearance.

Since I couldn't find the kind of stand I wanted and low enough to fit under my XT, I decided to build my own. starting with an old scissor jack from the bone yard.

And some steel.

Fits under the XT with loads of room to spare.

The no effort and low effort way of lifting your scooter. : )

Added a 1/2" x 11" x 7" Rubber Gription/Protector Pad.

A hinged 1/4" x 10" x 10" steel plate to add more stability.

Thanks Tony. I'm interested in what people are using for stands on these bigger heavier bikes, I know I'm done lifting mine by hand. it's a 160lbs heavier than my last dirt bike.

I have a hydraulic lift. I had a Varadero so needed somethign capable of lifting 300kg's and with low clearence. At the time I was looing for something to help lift the outboard on the boat to - this is very good, and with a 500kg limit too.

Once the bike is in the air, you can move it about if you want to...

There is more deatils here:-> http://www.machinemart.co.uk/shop/pr.../vehicle-lifts

I had one of those MX stands which slowly fell apart under the weight of my TT600R 150kg was a pig to lift the bike up.

I got one of those ^above^, it's heavey but does the job.

When my two eldest sons were doing schoolboy moto-x we had one of those MX stands/lifts, they aren't very strong, they fall apart eventually just with normal use for a lighter MX bike. When I had a DragStar (cruiser) I bought a lift similar to GULG's but when I sold the bike I sold the lift too .

Barry.

Got one the same as lets gas it ups, and it does the job but it is heavy and very blucky meaning you can really store it anywhere apart from just leaving it on the floor.

But how did you use it on a varadero as its only got a plastic bashplate?

Just my dads got a varadero and he just bought a centre stand which does the job.

Love the cordless drill as well for spinning it up quicker
