Kriega Tank Harness and bags

Right then, seeing as you asked for it, here's a short illustrated guide with comments on the Kriega Tank harness and the various bags that can be used with it.

Firstly the harness-



It has four mounting points; two webbing straps with loops at one end, and two webbing straps with quick release fasteners and industrial velcro at the other. Kriega recommend fitting the Q/R webbing at the seat end of the fuel tank, but on the Tenere there isn't a huge amount of space to stick the velcro patches. What I did was flip the harness round and make use of the large amount of tank space at the front of the bike to stick the velcro to. I then used the loop straps around the seat rails and fastened the harness down. To remove the harness for fuelling up, simply unclip the Q/R fasteners and lift the harness up and back into your lap.



Ok then the bags (US tailpack series) attach to the harness via loops which accept the webbing straps the tailpack's normally use to attach to the pillion seat. You can make them out in the first photo running along both sides of the harness.
I use a US-5 bag daily as somewhere to keep a cargo net, straps and other gubbins. The US-5 can be fitted either way up; mesh side up means you can slip stuff into the mesh pocket easily, or on the other side is a zipped pocket. As with all the US packs, access to the stuff inside is through the roll-over closure on one end of the bag.

As you can see, it's pretty tidy and tucks away nicely with no bar hindrances, nor rider hindrances.
Next up is the US-10-

A bit bulkier, but still no real hindrance to the rider or the bars. It's worth mentioning that ALL the tailpacks cover the ignition switch, but the 5 and 10 aren't too big to make access difficult.
Finally onto the US-20, she's a whopper. I don't really think I'd use this as a tank bag on the Tenere as it really is a bit big. When on the bike it sits in your lap, and on full lock both ways the bars touch the bag. It also covers the ignition a lot more than the other smaller bags.

Whilst there may not seem to be much difference in size between the US-10 and US-20, as the preceeding photo's showed, there is quite a difference on the bike. If I were only going to buy one of the bags, then the US-10 is probably the most useful to have with the harness. It also fits snugly onto the pillion section of the seat if you so wished.
Quality wise, there is no doubt in my mind that this is some of the best kit I've ever used. Each product is well finished and it does exactly what it's meant to. It's waterproof, tough, easy to use and there's a subtle satisfaction in knowing you're buying a quality product at a reasonable price.
