If you decide to fit a centre stand yourself all goes well until to you lose all skin off fingers and knuckles trying to fit the two springs. The springs are REALLY HD so here is a tip from an old mechanic mate.
I think the pics are self explanatory. Make sure the rope/string is up to the job or make sure you use multiple turns to add strength. Use the thickest spanner you have and put the bike on the sidestand. Sit on floor and brace foot against pedal for leverage. Pull back on spring until it locates and then just undo the string/rope etc. Viola all done and in seconds with no pain as opposed to hours with loss of all knuckle beauty. I have seen many mechanics wrestle with these with commical results. Nothing like seeing a spring launch into the undergrowth or sand when it decides to let go. This way the string stays with the spring so no lost springs.
Hope all these tips help those of you hoping to tackle some of the bike prep yourselves.
