I have a relay which is activated by the rear light circuit. This gives the power to the Oxford grips and heated jacket,,,,,,, and GPS. Means that you cannot forget to switch off these appliances. The realy is suitable to switch 30amps and works well with these extras. Not too difficult to do but you do need a good soldering iron, mixed terminals and heat shrink tubing, available from Halfords. Hope this helps.

I too am coming up for my 6000 mile service, will keep this in mind.

Been looking a little at this after having what I believe is a fault with mine. The oxford grips generally come very well recommended and certainly much cheaper than the yamaha ones. Certianly at the start when I had them they got pretty hot and they turn off with the engine to prevent getting a flat battery. Unfortunaly mine are not getting hot properly anymore (not ideal with sub-zero temperatures today) so I will be going back to the dealer to get it rectified (I got them fitted by the dealer as new when I got the bike and they aparently come with a 2 year guarantee). Just got to last until the 6th Jan when the dealer re-opens after their Christmas break. They're only justs getting warm even on bare hands but it was just enough to keep me going this morning.

Overall I'd recommend them

I've currently got some Oxford Hot Grips on my Hornet, really easy to fit and wire up.
I connected mine straight to the battery as the new type automatically switch off if the battery runs down to 11.4 volts, therefore the battery will have enough power to start the bike.
