Brake disc corrosion
I have a new Tenere where the brake discs are already showing signs of corrosion, I did have a very salty 1200 mile trip! Any suggestions for cleaning this off and further protection?

Can you put a photo on-line? Mines been out in the salt and it looks fine, it will clear the corrosion with use, but it it's too bad then there is a chance it may damage the pads.
If I've been out in the salt then I try to clean the bike as soon as possible - there are things you can use on most of the bike but the brakes are a bit tricky, best thing is to give them a good wash down and blast them dry with an airline, or towel.

I think he may be talking about the inner part of the disc ie the bit the brake pads dont touch.
I got a new disc for my XTR after i had an off and bust the old one and after about 2k miles from sept onwards on all the salty roads its shown more corrosion on it than the standard one which was 2 and a bit years old!!! Nothing to make it fall to pieces but signs of furryness and a few orangey metal bits

brake disc corrosion
Yeah it is the corrosion on the disc where the pad doesn't touch, the rest will come off with use, it seems especially bad around screws, sorry I dont know how to post a picture!
Maybe a good scrub will remove? |
