Red face Helmet life - how long you had yours??

I've just gone and got myself a new lid, the Arai Signet was 4 years old and it's time for a replacement I think (purchased a Shoei Multitech).

Anyway, looking around, reading up on the SHARP tests (boy, what a minefield!) and other stuff, there really is alot of differing views on lid life.

Personally, I usually stick to three years, so spending around 400 every 3 years is around 0.36 per day. It's not alot really to look after your bonce.

(incidentaly I have a different lid for each bike, MX for dirt riding, Tour-X for the Ten and the new Shoei for the Fizer/Ten)

So, go on, how long do you keep you lid for before you go for a replacement??

I use my lid nearly everyday so comfort was a key thing. My last helmet was an arai condor 200, which got me a clear and tinted visor. It lasted just over 2 years but some of the inner lining was very dirty (i work out on construction sites during the summer) and the left hand cheek pad linner was coming off so thought it time to get a new helmet. Got a Shoei Raid 2 from somebody on this forum for 100, bargin. bought me self a tinted visor and hopefully that will last about the same, or maybe more.

(Arai now used for a spare helemt)

Smile

I have a Roof Daytona Snot green, Just over 5 years old.

Noisy and mists the visor (Unlike the ride user reviews). Still on the original tinted visor, could not get a clear replacement for acceptable money. Top Front vent slider broken, and the lining has started to seporate just arround the visor opening.

Fits like a glove, althougt it is a helmet and goes on my head.

Had a Shark xfz?? before had it for 10 years, two visors both clear. Only bought the Roof because I wanted more space to wear a balaclava through the winter, and the Shark was noisy and misted up.

Before that mmmmm a yellow open face one of the first polycarbonate things cannot remember the name it came as a second hand package with a Honda SS50. I can still see the mental picture of my Dad with the helmet on "Testing" the SS50 after we had bought it.

prior to that a wooly benny hat was all I wore as a pillion on my Brothers Triumph.

As for my son all MX helmets, he is on to an RST 3rd Peak (1 year and still using), Outgrew the O'neil 2 peaks this one fits me so have kept it (1 year), Could not get new peaks for the Lazer after 4 replacements (2 years). bless him.

Just received an e-bulliten on Helmet testing thought I would add link for the forum.
