My 2007 XTX (Black) 2500 miles and still fun

I got a pre reg black XTX 2500 miles ago for 4k on 0% from Yamaha, to use to commute to work so that i could keep my R1 in good nick. i also previously had a YZ426 and WR450 but neither of them would do the 30 mile a day commute for very long so the XTX seemed like the perfect bike for me. Though it is a hell of a lot heavier than i would have expected, it handles like it is half the weight and has kept me entertained every day since i got it. It's so much more fun in traffic and it has slowed me down a fair bit as on the R1 i was always hitting silly figures on the way to work. The bike has not missed a beat, even the missus will keep her eyes open when on the back.
I don't have much faith in the perelli dragons on it as the front has slipped out twice on me n the wet and i have no rear tyre left on the back. The rear was on the wear lines 500 miles ago and is getting replaced as soon as i can find an avon disater somewhere.
On longer commutes i get some numbness/achy feeling in the base of my spine which might be because i wound the rear shock to it's higher setting. (hope that winding this back down may help and make tyres last a bit longer) Oddly i quite like the feeling.
The only bad points i have found is that the stand is not that great and could do with coming forward a bit as the bike has rocked off the stand when warming up in the morning and hit the floor but as a positive point nothing hits the ground other than the bars and the gear lever.(you have to bend this back gently) The final dislike is that if you were a lunatic and illegaly filtered through traffic then you may notice that though you handlebars/mirrors are above the wing mirrors of cars, they are fair game for 4x4's and vans and so a pair of hand gaurds could be of use.
I love the bike and it has the ability to bring the hooligan out in me again and I look forward to many more years of riding it.

I have removed the air intake snorkel and that has made it a little less asthmatic. All i need is a set of cans to help comunicate with car drivers my displeasure to being cut up. How much can i expect to get a set of CC for and do they take long to come through. Other than that, what hand guards are the ones to go for.

looking forward to my ride home now....

A happy XTX owner.

Hi and welcome to the forum

as monty said, CCC for 260, these are the Stainless steel full length cans, same as what i have and they are great.

Also hand guards, go for the yammy ones/acrebis/champion hand guards. Same guards many different names. They have a large metal bar along the inside so even if you clip a mirror or fall over in a slow spill your fingers will not go missing.

Greetings from down under RV. I also have a new black X but with only 600 on the clock. I was particulalrly interested in your ref to the bike rocking of the stand at idle....are you talking flat ground there? I leave mine to warm up while I wonder up the driveway to open the gates and fortunately it's still upright when I get back!!

The part of my drive where the bike used to sit to warm up is fairly flat and none of my other bikes have ever fallen over on it. It just seems like the stand is to up right. There is no way it would stand on a slope very well. If the xtr and z have the same stand then they will be next to useless off road.
i like you was in the garage putting kit on and over it went after about 3 mins. This has happened twice now. As you can see the drive is not that bad.

Thumbs up

Engine off and in gear, when I am not sitting on it , When sitting on it Have all my kit on ready to ride away.

Warm it up with gentle throttle on the first part of the journey same way I do with the cage.

Saves the enviroment, and the neighbour's getting upset at the noise at 6am.

If you insist on the warm up process I recommend a piece of wood 50x50 stuck under the rear tyre will stop it running away.

It is THE biggest and cheapest way to release more power from the XT660 engine. If you only had one change to get more power - this is it.
