X to R wheels

Hi,
If I remember correctly there was a thread somewhere here dealing with the awkwardness of putting R wheels on an X. But I can't seem to find it - anyone who knows which thread I'm thinking of? It's just for showing an aquaintance that's it's probably smarter, easier and cheaper to buy an R and an extra set of X wheels for SM'ing rather than the other way around.

Or did I get it wrong...?

Or maybe it wasn't after all?
It seems like both these links deals with R->X conversion, whereas I'm looking for X->R conversion info.

This was the one I originally posted but as I said earlier I don't think anyone has done it.

Considerations have got to be about the fork brace and fender removal, the shorter fork movement, the position and mounting of the brake caliper and disc at the front end. No problem is insurmountable but it may be expensive if it needed new R forks and headstock because of the head angle/trail to allow the 21" enough clearance from the downpipes etc.

At the rear it would seem to be a simple replacement of wheel and spacers for the narrower R wheel and perhaps attention to the suspension links (bones) because of the altered ride height at the front.

Smile

Also consider by the time you have bought everything unless you plan to keep changing it back and forth you would be as cheap trading it in for an 'R'
