Dear all,

Can anyone tell me how to reduce the brightness of the display on the 08 Tenere? It can be a bit of a shock when you drive into shade during the day. A mate (with a different Yamaha) said, do this.. and promptly wiped my odo and reset the clock, then said well it works on mine...

The other minor thing, is there an auxiliary power connector buried under the seat somewhere? I want to add GPS but would like to avoid attaching it directly to the battery or hacking up the wiring loom unnecessarily.

Try this link, It was to do with powering cameras, but if the Power requirement of the GPS is not above what Kev advises you could use it.

Just thought, what I have done in the past when The power requirements are too high for the circuit I used the circuit to trigger power through a relay that was fead directly from the Battery (Through an inline fuse).

I agree that the orange light is a bit bright but have not ridden the Z'ed in the dark to really know how 'bad' it is.
I also run a GPS but at the moment I have taken a fused lead connected directly to the battery which I use for my heated jacket. This is a standard Gerbing part but I have made a splitter which goes to a cigarette female socket which I use for the GPS. This works well, looks a bit shabby, but I just wanted to get going. I intend to add a relay soon as I do not like the idea of a constantly live output on the battery. I will look for a terminal that I can activate a relay that only becomes live when the ignition is on in a few days time after this weeken. Thumper club Annual Rally!
My last bike was a DR750 and I used a similar system to power a GPS, heated grips and the jacket, I think the relay was suitable for 30 amps.
PS bike is now getting bedded in and I'm using the revs more freely now, I can confirm that 113 on the speedo is 101 on the gps, sitting up!
True 70mph on the GPS is reading 78 on the bike speedo, not very accurate if you ask me but easier to keep your license if you keep to the speedo!
Oh and check small screws around the bike I seem to be loosing a few and the welding on the bent wire that holds the sidestand spring has come away already, not very good penetration of the actual weld, but I'll do this properly myself.

Sometimes you lose yourselves in a glass of water!! There is a simple solution to a screen display which is too bright without interfering with the bike's electrics.

Go to a paper store, you know the store where you buy writing paper, pens and similar stuff.... something like WH Smith in UK, and look for a sheet of dark tinted transparency paper normally used for ink plotters, cut a small piece of it and lay it on your display with some double sided transparent sticky tape. Sorted!

Use your imagination! Life can be so simple if you did....

On a technical note you could always use sun glasses, only joking.

It doesnt really affect me as the brightest thing on the bike is me.

Hi Steve D, it is very important that you contact Yamaha via your dealer.
If that weld breaks on a person whilst riding, it could have catastrophic results.
Re-calls and manufacturer feedback is fuelled by 'us' and 'our' problems. The manufacturers rely on it.

Please keep us informed on what the dealer has to say.

Not too sure how you change the brightness but the full beam blue light on my XTR is stupidly bright and means i get blinded when i ride in the dark so i got a bit of masking tape and taped to over the blue area. Sorted.

But i wouldnt advice you to do this on your main screen.

Dont like the sound of the 78mph when your only doing a true 70mph, thats more than a 10% difference, whats the crack there.
