Anyone used a 33hp restrictor on an xt600x?
If so what's it like with one fitted? |

Sorry could not resist Colin Not sure about XT but with other 650's it tends to reduce acceleration but gives good feul economy becasue the restrictor reduces the volume of Feul/air getting into the Engine. I am assuming the XT is done having a smalled intake in the intake pipe between the Injector and the engine. The bike will retain most of it torque so should still be Ok to ride. Hope this helps |

There is a guy called fostersmonster who had his bike restricted (supposedly). I will try and buzz him to see if he can shine some light on this subject.
I used to own a Honda Deauville 650 that was restricted to 33bhp and to be frank its ok for about 2-3months while you get used to the bike/handling/weight etc etc but after that it just gets boring and annoying . The on the DV it kept all its torque and most of the power but wouldnt rev over 5.5k rpm which was when all the power came in for bigger over takes. I had the restrictor on for 4months i think but was going to be touring europe so needed the extra power to haul me and gear around (when taking it out it gets destroyed so never put it back in, dont tell the police) I take it your looking at doing your test then buying a XT660X/R to restrict for the 2 years to 33bhp? Just for a matter of interest (You dont have to answer this if you dont want to) what height, wieght are you and what type of bike are you looking for? (Apart from the XT660X/R) Just ive a friend doing his test soon and we're having the same problem of finding him a bike as hes 6ft2 and about 14stone some was like me and doesnt fit on to many 250's/400s/500s etc Edit: Forgot to say welcome to the forum, pop over to the Newbies lounge and introduce yourself to us.

it's not too bad with 33bhp restrictor, the restrictor is postioned as a throttle stop on side of bike to stop the throttle going all the way back but is just the right place to do a good and safe wheelie in 1st gear hehe
when mine was fitted i managed to get 92mph out of it but took quite a while to get there on that note i still have me restrictor if anyone wants it, i was charged 100 at yamaha dealer for it when I had it fitted but not sure if that included the fitting as it was same time as i was buying bike from them so i'm guessing the fitting was free??

Hi, thanks all for your replys.
I've bought the bike already and it needs to be restricted. It's my first real bike after passing my test nearly a year ago (on a 2-stroke Vespa). So it'll have to be restricted for best part of another. My local dealer is fitting the throttle stop restrictor for free, parts are 35! I'm 6'2" about 17st. The thing that attracted me to the XT660X was the height to be honest and also a very good deal from a mate who is the salesman at the dealers. I've rode one un-restricted a few times and it goes fast enough for me. I'll have to get around and do direct access I think!! Like you say Max, I know it'll bug me after 2-3 months.. Anyone know the law in france & spain for using the restrictor? Knowing me just as the euro star is docking i'll be taking it off.. |

Im not too sure on the laws in europe about the restrictor but this is the most annoying bit about fitting the restrictor that once its fitted as soon as you try and break the seal of the washer type restrictor to get it off you void your insurance because its your legal responsability to have one fitted.
Also even if you do fit it, take it off for a blast around then refit it the dealer who originally fitted it cant be held responable for it not being fitted right. (Cause ive been told if you have an accident and it turns out your bike wasnt restricted properly then you get nothing basically) Its a real pain in the arse sometimes but as i looked at it it means you get used to how the bike will handle alot better as instead of just pointing and squirting like most (newish bikers) do you now try and keep corner speed as high as possible and everyone knows thats where all the funs at. Also it means once you do get the restrictor taken off you know how the bike will handle now youve to only worry about keeping an eye on your right wrist.
