well i got fed up with the otr tail pack and it started tearing where it mounts to the tail section of the bike.
So i bit the bullet and bought a metal mule stubby top box and rack.
Expensive, yes. I can't actually bring myself to write how much, look it up if you want to know. But its great, really good solid bit of kit, and the rack went on fairly easily.
I did have to drop the exhausts out the way, but it was worth it.
By the way, check the clamps on your ccc's, mine were loose, and now they are tight, has made a huge diff to power and rideability.
Will update on box and rack as i use them. So far well pleased.

It fits well, and is rattle free due to the fixing mechanism. I'll try to do a few of the box inside and the fixing mechanism etc, but gotta go and cook dinner now.

this one shows the clamping mechanism that holds the box tight to the rack, and is operated by a lever inside the box. In this shot its extended ready to fit the box.



this shows the lever up, which extends the clamp. the other metal tab is the lock retaining lug.



this is the lever pushed down, how it would be if the box was fitted, or just being carried etc. The clamping mechanism retracts into the tray base of the box so the rubber feet are first to contact the ground.


This is the bottom of the box, all of the ally channel sections are lined with a rubbery sustance to get a snug fit. The back one slots on as you push the box onto the frame, and the others locate as you push it down onto the frame, then finally the lever operated one clamps up from beneath. This produces the most secure attatchment i've ever used.



It is certainly waterproof and has a rugged and solid construction, well worth the money, as i rekon it'll last ages and will fit all their racks, if, god forbid, i change bikes. So would only need to buy a new rack. All round i think its excellent, way better than any ABS box, and should survive any spills easily.

say.... how many pizza's can ye get in there?

probably about 7 if you folded them and jumped up and down on them

practicalities over looks i'm afraid captn. i can live with a filing cabinet on my bike if it means not carrying stuff in a ruksac, as i often carry tools and power tools, not good if you have an off.
